    Re: Tail light Bezels

Gene, since the program for these was written and QAA is close by, I wouldn't mind speaking with Tonka to see if we could get a re-run, but do not want to if there would only be a few orders. It probably wouldn't be cost effective and if they did make a run. That cost would have to be passed on. And as you know, when prices rise, people lose interest.

They already replied to another member that Ford will not let them produce them anymore.

        Re: Tail light Bezels

To repeat, the tail light bezels that I purchased did not have a satisfactory fit because they did not meet the painted areas of the rear fenders perfectly at the entire margin of the bezel. That is why I elected to not place them on the car. Not whining, just the facts.

          Re: Tail light Bezels

Bill, That is exactly my reasoning. I think a better job could have been done to ensure a better fit. I'm not quite ready to call it quits, so i'm trying a few things. I'm thinking along the lines of the filler strips that car co. use where metal meets metal or between lights, or fenders. A round small piece of plastic might fill in the area between plastic and where fender meets. Just one of my thoughts. Chas

I think mine fit fairly well and I do get more compliments about the car since I installed them. To each his own.

I was thinking that perhaps a small rubber O ring might act as a seal and tighten the fit around the bezels, and I would like to know if that would do the trick, as a lot of older cars use to have those in between pieces of chrome, etc.

I have not installed my yet for the same reason as mentioned above. I haven't given up on them yet as I do like the look. If I remember correctly they have double back tape on the inside to hold them to the lens cover. Was thinking maybe a person could rearange that tape or replace with some thinner tape to get a better fit.

I still have a 4 of the silver thunderbird embles. I might sale them if i can't come up with an idea for them.

                    Re: Tail light Bezels

I've got the same look that Ron has. I feel it really helps the look of the rear lights on red cars. I've got the same T-bird emblems on the taillights and also added one to the center brake light.

However, I understand the concerns of others. The bezels are slightly raised from the fender lines and I noted that right after Bunny Lou helped me install them. But I feel the improved look (contrasting the red/red) outweighs the slight imperfection in line flow ... I like it more with time.

A thinner tape might help. The sanded ones shown earlier in the thread improve the lines, but I'd definitely want to keep the chrome look.

                      Re: Tail light Bezels

Guys (and gals), we have to be practical here.

If the top and sides of the tail light is even with the top and sides of the fender, then anything placed on the top and sides of the lens is not going to be flush with the fender, unless it's planed to the point where it's the thickness of tape.

The question becomes, how much of a mismatch are you happy with?

I haven't taken a close look at a car with this mod, but, if the curvature is off, well, that's just poor design.

Keep them, you'll be glad you did when one snags on a rag and gets bent.

Just wondering-since advertisers all seem to use the same picture are these all made by one company.

Prices seem all over the place with eBay sellers having the best.

No one has mentioned where they purchased theirs or the quality of the chrome plating.

                          Just wondering.

Tthe tail light bezel should not be in touch with the trunk. The practical reason is to avoid any water accumulation that may in turn rust in the long run depending where the car is used across the world. So, it should have a good natural ventilation between these 2 parts. This is what I was looking first because there is no rubber between these 2 parts to protect the trunk for any water accumulation even after washing the car. For example, it was raining most of the time here in last April, May and June That was not the case for July and hoping in August.

                                Steve;
If it's a black TBird, it's probably mine. Many years ago I hooked up with QAA automotive who manufactures the flat polished stainless parts, in the next town to me.
In fact the original deck strip came out to the edge of the 3rd tail light and they didn't sell many. I took a scribe and went around my hardtop scribing a line in the stainless part and said that's how much should be taken off.
They immediately went in and redesigned to the thinner size and laser cut a new deck strip. We put it on the Bird and it's still there.
So many of the flat parts are made by them and sold through distribution. There are other parts that they do not make but they do distribute to other sellers. Like the tail light bezels. But I'm sure others buy from China and sell those as well.

In fact they asked if they could temporarily stick on everything they sell and do a photo shoot. I agreed and never realized that everyone of their sellers were going to use the pictures, but glad trhey do. After the shoot, they removed what I didn't want on the car.
I hope this clears it up for you.
