  • Re: pcm problem

YESTERDAY, THE FORD DEALER TOLD ME THAT AFTER THE THROTTLE BODY WAS RELACED, THEY FOUND THAT THE "COIL ON PLUG" NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THIS WILL BE COVERED BY FORD. WAITING FOR THE PART TO COME IN. HE SAYS THAT WHEN THIS IS FIXED, THEY WILL CHECK FOR FURTHER PROBLEMS TO SEE IF THE ECM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ARE THESE STILL NOT AVAILABLE? IF SO DO I CONTACT THE EPA??

Here are two links to web sites that I found after a quick Google. Both sites rebuild and reprogram ECM-TCM-and PCM. I entered my VIN and was given a price of $395. It is something we should check out.

LOOKS LIKE I GOT A STAY OF EXECUTION. DEALER JUST CALLED AND SAID CAR RUNNING FINE WITH NEW THROTTLE BODY AND COPS. COPS COVERED BY FORD, OF COURSE I PAY FOR THROTTLE BODY. NO NEED FOR AN ECM NOW, AT LEAST. LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING WE ALL NEED TO KEEP AN EYE ON FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.
          THANKS FOR ALL THE FEEDBACK.

NOW I NOTICE THAT THE IDLE SPEED IS TOO HIGH. CAN MOVES FORWARD AT STOP IF YOU DON'T KEEP YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE. TACH SHOWS APPROX 1000 RPM AT IDLE IN NEUTRAL. APPT WITH DEALER HAS BEEN SCHEDULED. HOPING THIS IS A SIMPLE ADJUSTMENT RELATED TO THE NEW THROTTLE BODY/COPS, ANYONE HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WITH FAST IDLE?
