I also had the Goodyear Response Edge tires on our bird when I bought it 2 1/2 years ago. They lasted about 35,000 - replaced with Bridgestone Turanza Serenities. Changed to the 235/55R17 over the 225/50R17s of Goodyear.

Better handling and cannot believe how much quieter the Bridgestone's are over the Goodyear's. Think you will notice the sound difference as well going away from the Response Edge.. I really did not realize the Goodyear's were so noisy until I made the change. About $150 each at Firestone. No complaint with Goodyear handling but happy with Bridgestone.

Mike, I am glad to hear that you got good mileage out of your ResponsEdge tires, and first of all I want to say, I did not intend to disparage Goodyear tires. I merely recounted my experience. There are factors that could have contributed to my situation. I replaced all of the suspension bushings on my car during the time I had the Goodyear tires. Very likely the worn bushings were a major contributing factor.

I'll be getting my TBird out of hybernation in the next few weeks and after a bath and a oil change my next thing is new rubber. I've got 18K miles on the original tires, they look great but it's the age thing that's bugging me. I'm planing on putting a set of Red-Lines on my car and I'm going with 255/17 size but I haven't decided on Coker or Diamondback. Does anyone out there know of any other company that sells Red-Line size I want. Also as soon as I get them on the car I'm going to have a Red-line stripe painted from the front fender louvers and fallow the body line back to just before the tail-light and the same shade of red as the tire stripe and the same width. But right now I'm still recovering from my bilateral knee surgery I had done March 14th at Rush University Hosp. in Chicago. I expect to be in Rehab about one more week? Leroy

We had to replace 1 tire due to taking on a nail too close to the inner sidewall. I also got a second opinion because Michelin changed the appearance of the Pilot MXM 4 tire from the OEM.

Good Year inspected the others and found no problems even though they are 6 years old and believe me they want to sell tires.

With 2,600 miles and spending its life gararged they said the UV doesn't get to it and there was no cracking etc.

W e replaced the 1.

So in around about way have your tires inspected first and not just replaced.

I decided to replace the original tires on our 2002 Tbird in June 2009 as did not want to worry about age. At the time I was wondering about the Pilot Sport A/S Plus and asked on this forum but nobody had tried them on a Tbird so I opted for the OEMs and have been very happy with them.

Would like to hear from those that tried the Pilot Sport A/S Plus. How are you fairing with noise, traction, and wear?

I still have the original Michelins on my 'Bird and they have plenty of thread left. Too bad they last that long because I'm waiting for them to wear out to buy some some whitewalls!...

Has anybody tried a Continental Extreme Contact DWS on their T-Bird (or anything else)? They get very high marks on TireRack. I'm in need of a new set of tires and haven't really been satisfied with the Michelin HXMXM4s, although I've run Michelins on every vehicle I've owned.

They were the OEM Tire on the 2010 Mercedes GLK. They are #1 in my mind as a replacement tire for the Bird.
But...............I'm not sure I like them enough to throw away Michelins with about 3000 miles on them!

On the Mercedes, they were a great, great tire.
Magnificent Traction dry or wet, very quiet and no noticeable tread wear at 10,000 miles.

Don't know. My Goodyear Eagle GT's have 15,000 on them and still look like new.

.......... another vote for a tire that is very clearly the better choice for me.

Even if the Goodyear GTs fail to deliver the same number of miles as the Michelin's they will probably last plenty long enough for most people in this forum who don't use their car as a daily driver anyway.

The upside to the Goodyear for me is found in it's NO COMPROMISES application as a performance tire vs the Michelin with too many compromises.

If you need to get as many miles as possible out of a tire and your T-Bird is driven in the snow I can't make an argument for the Goodyear over the Michelins.

How-ever......if your car is driven only in the summer and maximum performance is your goal.

The Michelin simply doesn't even come close.

We have the Goodyear GTs on the '02 and Michelins on the '04. So this isn't a comparison based on memory. The Goodyears in a side by side (I may go out an take the picture to prove what I'm saying here) simply have the wider fatter "foot print" and it's a difference you can feel in the corners. Our '02 has the slightly softer suspension yet sticks in the corners to a degree that the '04 can't match on it's Michelins.

I just had Conti Extreme DWS tires put on my Bird. Too new to me to assess. Liked the Michelins (original, but 9 years old) . Tire Rack reviews and others sold me on this tire. Went with 235/55 series. Have driven in light snow and again, no comment as to favourable or not. Had Blizzacks for the winter, but decided to avoid on/off tire change in spring and fall. ie. all season and snow tire. So far they are fine and I have put about 1000 miles on them in all weather conditions.

Just put the Serenity tires on mine also two days ago...too early to tell, but so far they ride well. I went ahead and got the 50's, though.

I've had ResponseEdge tires on the car since May 2008 and have about 32K on them. I'm sure that they have enough tread to go at least the 10K + miles we have planned for the rest of the year. Can't imagine how they lasted only 10K on another T-bird given the service they have given us.

It this point they are not as quiet as they once were, but are not objectionable enough to worry about.

All in all, I'm glad I save the $300 or more difference in price between them and what OEM replacements would have cost.
