  • Turn Signal out, cost

There may be a thread on this somewhere so excuse the repeat. Had a turn signal bulb go out. $3 for the bulb and $89 labor. Takes a special tool by Ford and take out part of the trunk to get into the housing (do not try this at home). Of course 2 weeks after one goes out the other one blows. So two Ben Franklins for what use to cost you a Lincoln fiver.

Ah the joys of production line engineering, Goes together quick for Fords production line, comes apart as pain for the consumer.

Does not require a special tool. A little patience and less than a half hour, for the cost of the bulb alone. I have replaced both my rear lights. Patience ran thin, cursing started, neighbors sent the kids in during my meltdown. Do a search, ypu will see most here have done it themselves, at home.

      ????

Replaced all head light and tail light bulbs a few weeks ago myself. It was easy, no special tools needed.

          Re: Turn Signal out, cost

The last rear bulb I changed 2 weeks ago took me about 20 minutes since I burned my finger on the !$%@^!# trunk light bulb while trying to get to the outer nut with a wrench.

A small, open-ended wrench will work...if you have the patience.

It's not easy... that's why whussy people recommend replacing the nuts with wingnuts. Me? The local, poorly run hardware store had every size... except for the metric wingnut I needed. Go figure!!!

          Thanks!

Paid $10.00 + cost of bulbs for both at the same time.

Changed both of mine ,took me longer time to find a wrench as most are sold in sets.Found the 11mm wrench (I think that's the size) at a black & decker store.I now keep it in the glovebox to not lose it.I also don't tighten the nut that hard ,hand tight as I use a deep socket by itself to loosen the nut.

Replacement is described in the manual. A few threads on TBN about loosening the nut on the long threaded rod.

Replaced both of mine. Took about 30 min., replaced with long life bulbs. Used a deep socket to get the nuts loose. Hint: On the right one remove the trunk light first to keep from burning yourself.

also..some one here suggested change the nuts to wing nuts...when you have to replace the bulb......now it becomes a 5 min job....

                          Re: Turn Signal out, cost

Simple job, once the time is taken to turn that little nut off that long threaded post.
Some of you will yell, but - I measured and then shortened the studs once the tail light was off the car. Dremmel, it cuts, it works. This process can now be done with a standard socket and requires no anger or yelling of any kind.
I have 102,XXX miles on her, and I feel this modification only helps. Do not know why these threaded studs were so long to start with, but trimming them down changed nothing as far as I can tell.
Advance Auto sells the bulbs in boxes of ten Sylvania 3157 bulbs, behind the counter, for just a little more than the two pack on the store shelves. Now granted bulbs do not blow on a quick basis, but I own 4 Fords. Money better spent- just ask the guys behind the counter for them.

It was a Ford Dealership that did that? Go to the service manager and
ask for a refund and an apology from the service tech. This is not good service from a Dealership and they should be ashamed.
