  • New Tbird Contintental kit

Got an email showing photo of the Tbird Contintental kit in progress. Like the chrome around the outside and the fact it holds the spare tire. However its just stuck there, It needs a chrome bumper wrap around to tie it all in. IMO. What say you all?

Got the same email, not a fan of the Continental Kits for the retros, this is the worst of the worst IMHO. My car was designed with spare tire storage under the trunk floor. If I need more luggage space, I got a trunk rack which I feel is much more in scale and pleasing to the eye than the Continental kit here. Could probably get more luggage capacity on my rack than is freed up in the trunk floor with this elephant. Sorry, just my opinion, I laughed out loud when I saw that photo, and that would have to really play with the handling and weight / balance of the car.

We got the email also. Charley & I were kind of speechless, and not because we liked it. I think it really detracts from the lines of the car.

I saw it too. I don't suspect it will be a huge hit. I would think they would do some artists drwaings and test the public interest before spending a bunch
of time and money on the R&D.

I deleted my email, hopefully someone will post a pic. It looks like a tire cover off a 80's van, stuck on the back of a T'Bird via a receiver hitch.

Looks like a target for vehicles approaching from the rear. Please, no offense intended to the designer, but I can't imagine anyone coming up with that idea and thinking it looks good and would be marketable.

I wonder if that sort of mod would need a DOT certification? In a severe rear-end collision, you could have crap flying everywhere. Including a tire.

I'm not crazy about any of them but would choose this one before I would purchase the new prototype.

Here it is, a receiver hitch mount and pick up a fiberglass tire cover from a salvage yard or JC Whitney and your set.

I AGREE WITH ALL THE COMMENTS---MIGHT LOOK OKAY ON A 50's BIRD----DOES NOT WORK FOR THE RETRO BIRDS----PUT IT ON THE FRONT AND DRIVE BACKWARDS---NOW YOU HAVE A REAL LOOKER!!
