True you can't buy it and I really don't know the octane but believe it's mid grade or higher. In Fl the cost of marine fuel is much higher, so I don't know of taxes or what. I do know the taxes on it go into a different kitty, supposedly for water use projects, ramps etc.

When I first tested my '58 352ci rebuilt engine I got some av. gasoline (aviation) at a small local airport. Think it was about 100 octane and still had some lead additive. I had to sign for it and put it down for testing purposes only. Got about 5 gallons and thought it would be good to run in the valves and rings. If memorie serves me correct, back in the late 50's , early 60's, premium was around 98 octane, leaded.
After that run-in I just switched over to premium gasoline (91 octane).
