  • What is a TBN event like?

The Texas Thunder blog has been active for over a year in an effort to info those attending the event about Texas. Yesterday the blogmeister made the final entry. It is a great description of what happens at a TBN event.

    Enjoy:

Would that be a pair of Wooden Shoes like all the Durch farmers around here wear?

The reason they wear wooden shoes is to keep the woodpeckers of off their head.

(just had to put this in, sorry if I offended anyone)
Now, where did I put mine ?

We can't wait for this event. The last big TBN event we went to was Thunder Fever in 2005. Just picked up the car after 100,000 mile service at the local Lincoln dealer. There were more problems with the car than we had anticipated. Was running rough, suspected a cop, was right, #7 this time. Worse yet, the valve gasket was leaking oil all down into most of the cop sleeves. So had to have the valve gasket replaced. Then I found some yellow-ish green stuff on the garage floor, that turned out to be the A/C compressor leaking, so that had to be replaced. They replaced the drive belt while they were at it, said it needed replacing. Had one tire fixed, slow leak, sure glad it wasn't a corroding wheel. Oil/filter change, tires rotated, all fluids, etc checked. Almost $2,000. I guess we should expect to have these things come up in a 9-year old car with nearly 100,000 miles on it. Oh well, at least it's paid for and we're debt-free, so we have money set aside for these things. I decided to leave the original battery alone, they said it was fine and it's still strong as when new. So saved some there. And we got a $107.00 credit toward the next service of any car since we spent so damn much, lmao!

The car is running really great now, I didn't realize how bad it was running until now that it's fixed. Washing and waxing this weekend, and convertible top repair on Tuesday, almost ready! Trying to cook up something special for the car, not sure if I can pull it off but we'll see.

I think I'd take that $107 and buy a battery. It has got to be on borrowed time or getting close to it. Nothing could ruin a trip faster than coming out from a pit stop and the car not starting. The thing about these batteries is when they go - they go completely.

Looking forward to seeing you again - it has been a long time since Thunder Fever!

Looking forward to seeing you both again as well Phil. Given what you came up with as your "something special" for Thunder Fever - I can only imagine what you'll pull out for the Texas event.
