As mentioned, they have done them while doing the paper work.
You're probably right. I'll still get the Safety done at Ford, like to have that completed and out if the way, so that it is just the DRLs that will have to be addressed.
Although I may take a look at making that change myself (i.e. the SPLs conversion) while I wait for the RIV paperwork. CTC can't do anything till I receive forms. If the headlights don't get modified to DRL I can run with brighter bulbs in them.

      Re: Daytime Running Lights Question

Such a nice day today and recognizing that the safety certificate will require DRLs being active, I postpone my appointment and with the guidance provided by this thread http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...&highlight=spl I converted the SPLs to now function as my DRLs. They are on full time, whenever the car is running, and the function is independent of the parking lights and the headlights.

With the safety certificate (tomorrow) I should be all set for the inspection, once the RIV forms arrive. The Bird is getting closer to getting her Canadian Citizenship.

Check the RIV site (www.riv.ca). You can track your case using the number on your form 1. I was able to download my form 2 within a day or so of crossing the border. No waiting for a form to be mailed.

Thanks, great tip! Past my safety today, no issues, the SPLs active as my DRLs.

QUESTION: did you also use your SPLs as the DRLs?

Thanks again for the lead to the RIV and the on-line form access.

No problem. I did use the SPLs for DRLs. Not because I wanted to, but because the technician at Canadian Tire couldn't figure out any other way to do it. In any case, they work and meet the standard required, so I'm happy with it.

I'm doing the same, easier, inexpensive and it works.

                Re: Daytime Running Lights Question

Am I glad you gave me that tip to track my case with the RIV. When I signed on, this is the status of my car:

Our records indicate that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) supplied 1FAH9............ In fact, the VIN on your vehicle does not comply with the VIN requirement, the vehicle is deemed INADMISSIBLE, and will have to be exported from Canada with proof of export provided to this office.

Scary, almost had heart failure, but the VIN they are reporting is incorrect. The 5th digit, the number "9" is really a "P". It is correct on the form 1 and all other documentation so a simple administration error that I am hoping they can quickly fix.

Thanks again for pointing me to the on-line option.

What is the form 2 from RIV? I received a form 1 from Canada Customs and then printed a form when paying RIV online. This form has my case #, and places for the Canadian Tire agent to fill in a bunch of questions regarding the modifications, VIN, model, etc. Is that the Form 2?

Cankamm, sent you a PM for the DRLs. What you printed off is the on-line form. I paid my RIV fee at the border, so had to just access this form 2, separately. Once you modify or get the SPLs modified to function as your DRLs, get a safety/emission Check you should be fine. I believe they simply put a sticker on your gauge cluster to note that it is MPH. I had mine changed out, $800 if done in the US, couple hundred more to do it here (don't ask me why). Good luck, let us know how you make out or if you need any help, people here are great and knowledgeable.
                    Congratulations on your purchase. Jerry
