Re: Input Please on an 02 NM I'm looking at...

I don't see any of the 3 issues listed as hard to fix or a reflection on how the car was cared for.
The vinyl separating from the door panel can easily be fixed to never know there was ever any damage by a GOOD automotive upholstery shop. I've seen this in photos of several cars in eBay adds over the years, I think it's simply a issue of glue giving way, not necessarily a reflection of abuse.
The paint scratch can be fixed by a reputable auto body shop. If they are good, they can match the paint where it isn't noticeable. With the computer match paint facilities today, it's not that big a deal. Black may be harder than some cars, that's where a GOOD body shop makes the difference. I had a Black Cadillac Eldorado ETC, hit a deer going through Mississippi, severe damage and body work. When completed, you could not tell what had been repainted and what was original. And who knows if it was owner negligence that caused this scratch or not, 9 years old, parking lots? something falling in the garage? Who knows, it's a scratch, they happen.
The trim piece, who knows, like someone mentioned, some good 3M tape fixes that. It holds moldings on the outside of cars, through weather, heat, elements, cars washing, etc.
If you like the car and all else is good, the price is right, these would be the last things on my list to be concerned about.
Just do your best research and due diligence and make your best decision.

Just wondering, any good financing recommendations? I'm not retired military.

I don't think I've ever bought a car that I didn't consider what market value it could retain. I'm just a bit overly practical like that. That said, the N.M. looks very distinctive. Really, I don't think there's been any tbird that I haven't liked, so I've been impressed with the overall style of the vehicles and would be thrilled to care for and own one. I hope anyone looking at these cars gets to know this forum. Y'all are awesome!

George, I was thinking that the interior panels are a different color than other blacks. Not true?

Yes. I believe all 2002 TBirds are a different interior black then 2003-2005 TBirds. It's a bit more like charchol colored black. However, I also believe the Nieman-Marcus may have had different embroidery.
Can anyone confirm this for Tina or am I mixing the seat differences up with the 007 model from 2003

The seats were completely unique for the NM resulting from the grey / silver inserts. As for the door panels, I think they were the same charcoal grey as other 2002's and different from the color of the 2003-2005's

I wonder how many TBN folks would continue to drive this car with these fixable items?

Doesn't that say something about the previous ownership, and what about things that were abused or neglected that you can't see?

              Sorry, it does to me.

If your considering later value. The 03 thru 05 have features the 02 didn't have. Not to mention cop warranty??

MintBird, you're driving my favorite color, I just can't afford you. ;)

Black is black! We had our 56 Bird painted last year and when I went in to buy the paint the sales man went to the shelf and got a can of paint, when I said it is Raven Black he looked it up and said all black paint is the same. You just have to look out for sun fading but our cars are clear coated so no fading. But black is the hardest color to blend, so the compleat panel needs painted, but there are seams where they can mask off and just paint the panel. So Loanstar's guess of $750-1000 sounds about right.

What I can see on mine:
NM emblem stuck on the chrome trim above the glove box
NM emblem embroidered on the floor mats
                            Silver full accent package
Bird emblems engraved on the port hole windows (interior?)
other then that I'm pretty sure the interior is the same

Just an update... Financing seems easier than I anticipated. That's good news.

Can anyone tell me, regarding that passenger side panel, I'm expecting I'll have to replace it. Is that panel the same color in all '02s?

Has anyone found an after factory seat heater that's especially good?
