This is a Merlot with Merlot factory cloth top. I think it's a deluxe since it doesn't have heated seats, but the wheels throw me off. There may have been painted wheels on the Deluxe, and micro-machined on the premium.

Anyway, I think Merlot on Merlot is beautiful.

Everything with this car points to it being a premium EXCEPT the no heated seats that you pointed out. Ford built both premium and deluxe Tbirds with the merlot softtop which is weird in itself as they usually didn't do a colored softtop on the deluxe models but the stats show they did.

It is possible that the the button panel was removed?

Silver State Ford (https://www.silverstatefordparts.com...ird-parts.html) shows the top cover in 3 colors:

      Ash - $807
      Black - $779
      Light Oak - $731

The back glass is shown at $639.

They don't list a merlot color but it may be available.

The Ash is actually Light Ash, add to the list Merlot, Med Steel Blue and Med Light Stone (on the Cashmeres)
Ford does not make the tops, they are made by EZ ON or Robbins. The prices through Ford are inflated. Also if you go to Ford, they will get a quote from a top shop, mark up the labor, and it will cost double what you pay if going straight to a Auto Upholstery Shop. Just checked all the options prior to replacing mine recently.

Check www.topsonline.com , you can get the entire top plus the rear window for $629.00, I do not recommend getting the top yourself, then having a shop install as then if you have a problem with the top, the shop will charge additional labor to replace, labor is almost as much as the top itself, have your shop order, if there is a problem, the supplier will pay the shops labor to replace.

Additional info, a large part of the labor is associated with the rear window section.
Little more info, EZ On actually made my top with my choice of Sailcloth Vinyl, in my color choice of Sandlewood and shipped directly to the shop installing.

Asked the stat expert, Quickdraw. It is a deluxe model that someone added the hardtop to. SST was available for the deluxe models which I verified in the ordering guide for the 04s (had never spotted that before). think I might have some repair work to do on my website.

Dot, I refer to your site constantly. You may have this already, but if not, I'll make a copy and send to you. It's a 24 page, actually 12 sheets printed front and back, called a 2005 Thunderbird, Index of Key Features. Black and white, intended to educate the salesmen on the key features of the 2005 Thunderbird, regarding styling, options, mechanical, exterior, interior features, engine, suspension, etc. When I was buying my car, the salesman was referring to it trying to answer my questions, I took it and was reading it, he slipped it in my car and said, here, keep it, we have another copy.

Re: Cost of new soft top?

I believe mine with OEM Ford Top was around $1000 with discount. They did not replace the back glass.

The shop first installed a Haartz aftermarket top but the orange defroster wires were exposed and it drove me nuts. It did not look finished. It was considerably cheaper in the $600 range if I remember correctly.

For sure the original tops are hard to keep clean esp. in Fl. I am glad to hear there is vinyl but would like to see one. I can imagine they would be a little more noisy. Also in years past some of my vinyl tops would crease at the folds over time.
