  • CD Player Blues

So today was finally the day I took the Tbird to work. Weather was great at the start - flash rain during the noon hour, but when it finally was time to head home the sun was out and it was hot !

The roof went down and I popped in my (latest) favourite CD - Chickenfoot's debut CD (you know, Sammy Hagar formerly of Van Halen). I am cruisin' along with the tunes blaring, and arrive at home. Time to take out the Chickenfoot CD to continue playing in the backyard - press eject - door opens, but no CD comes out. Door stays open. Uh oh, something's wrong. What will I do without my Chickenfoot CD? Turn off the TBird. Still nothing. Restart TBird - eject still doesn't work. Load CD doesn't work. Not good.

I head inside and decide it's time for some heavy artillery. Get the super thin screwdriver out and gently "nudge" my precious Chickenfoot CD out and voila ! It pops out with no problem !! All is good !!

Thank goodness the story ended this way, as I was trying to figure out how I would tell Anne that I "broke" her CD player in the Yellow TBird !!

When a CD has stuck within view of the open door on Amadeus' player, the tweezers I keep in the door pocket for that emergency come in pretty handy.

I am having problems getting my CD player to eject the disks inside. The screen just comes up "CD ERROR".
In addition, they don't want to play either.

Now what? I thought perhaps it was because of the heat but same results when it has cooled down in the evening. Not sure I should start jambing things into the slot. The CD's are originals, not copies which are thicker so they should eject without difficulty.

I have added a stainless kit to my dash and really don't want to remove it.

      Any suggestions?

Gord, try "Eject All". instructions are in your manual.

It's been a long time since I had this problem, but it worked for my stuck CD's when nothing else would.

Ditto all the above... combinations of Radio & Key On / Off & some patience can eventually coerce the CD out... AVOID any kinda CD's with ANY kinda "stick on Label" - These in Dash models will not tolerate them.

Try running the A/C as cold as it will go through the vents for a few minutes, apparently the player cools down enough to eject the cds. This worked for me the only time I had the problem.

Thanks, Sally I will have to try that and let everyone know if it works. I can see the CD inside the slot so it is probably jambed with another below it.

                    My Friend:
Use your computer and I-Tunes to make a CD copy of your any precious CD that may get stuck. So far, every care I have owned with a multiple CD changer has stuck or retained all CDs. I do not put originals into any CD changer in any of my cars, that includes the 02 T-Bird, 05 GTO and 08 Suzuki. For what ever reason they all seem to like keeping their changer full. Beware, take some time and save your originals.
Only those who will risk going too far
Can possibly find out how far one can go.

I had the same problem coming back from Borla, I wanted to take out one cd to put my new one in and got the same error code --- I just took my "key" card from the hotel and ran it around in the cd slot and the cd came out -- I guess a credit card would work too or maybe it was just a lucky fluke that it came out.

                        Re: CD Player Blues

CD Error for second time in two years. Last time I removed the player and took it apart as far as I could. I figured it went together it had to come apart. Well after all the effort I could not get to the cds. Put it all back and tried it and the first message that came up was initalizing. CD #1 loaded and all was well. Yesterday CD ERROR came up again. Well this time I took it out of the dash and just unplugged all of the power to the unit. Plugged it all back in, put the unit back in the dash and initializing came on and all is well again. I suppose I could have played wth the battery but thought I would have to reset too many other things. So far this has been the cheap fix.

I did not think about the fuse but if it works it's still a cheap fix.
