Re: Thank you all for your comments but ...

    Guys,
I think we've all been in that situation, just not enuf $$ to take a chance. Is there something we could do, like maybe if a few of us could spare 50 or $100 bucks, the car could be taken to a L/M dealer (like I use). Could be a simple fix, or if it a major job, at least you'd know.

Feeling like a sword over your head is not a good feeling. I effects everything you do.

    Anyone else willing to help?

I'll contribute $50-$100 toward the cause. We all know it's probably a relatively simple problem, but dealer diagnosis and a computer replacement can be a bit costly. However, cost for a new/ different car could be more costly in the long run, especially with a less-than-optimal trade-in.

geezy pete people, these individuals don't want a solution they want to complain and moan about a 8 to 9 year car that they owe to much on that now needs work. Save your money and let them follow thru with their plans to get rid of their T Bird. maybe then they will be happy and you all wont have wasted your money.

Great way to treat a Vet. I feel sorry for those who've never had an opportunity to help out a friend, even the one not met, yet.

JMO, But I feel for what has happened with this Bird and the Owners. With that said it is probably best for them to cut their loses and move on with their life. Maybe someday down the road they can pick up another one. There are lots out there for sale.

First off DBEATON You got a bad attitude. If I wanted attitude, I would wipe it off my ASS. Secondly, I just ordered another sensor. This time the idle control sensor. Got the information from this site and other sites and talking to technicians. I really hate that I spent more money but I sincerely pray and Hope that this one is the magic part.
Seeing my wife's disappointment in her car is tearing me up. I wised there was more I could do. I appreciate the financial offers, but I could not in good conscience accept monies from anyone. If I cannot find the problem and trade the car then I would have let you guys down and your monies would be for nothing. Just knowing that there are people who are generally concerned and generous makes me want to keep at it. Don't know how much longer but may the good Lord be with us.

Zero codes???? How can the ECM not be throwing off codes when the car is malfunctioning?

                    This makes no sense.

It also sounds like you are willing to try to fix it. If so, I will offer to help with online support, just like everyone else has.

Just tell us what you want to do.

Sadly there are people who never had the ( "impossible never supposed to happen ") thing happene to them and you have to experience it to believe it. I can believe you could have the only t-bird in existance with this problem. For me I would hang in there and you will eventually find it and many years later be glad you stuck it out. You have invested too much time money heart, and soul to quit now. Besides 99 % of the people on here will be behind you all the way.

I would love to go to this post and see that you have solved the problem. In reality
I don't think you will. Today's cars ninety percent of the problems are going to be
electronics computer, sensors and so on. The backyard mechanic and most of the
independents are not going to cure these problems. What the dealer has going for him
is not the diagnostic equipment but the fact that he can try a component doesn't work back on the shelf. Believe me the hit and miss technique is alive and well. You
just can't afford this approach as it will put you in the poor house. Again I just want
to wish you the best of luck.

I went back to the original thread and it said they found 11 codes, but only one was mentioned. Is there a way to retrieve the codes?

                          Would a computer update help?

Barbara has a good thought there... I can't recall, was there ever a software update for the 2002 computer? Ronnie... might be worth asking the dealer to check to see if an update is available and has it been applied to your bird?

The suggestions to try a Lincoln dealer also sound good, but I'm wondering if your Jasper Ford dealer is also the local Lincoln dealer? Bummer if that's the case.

I hope your latest sensor does the trick. Hate to see you have to trade it in, especially at a loss.

                            Best of Luck,

Still waiting for the IAC sensors to arrive. Currently Ford has agreed to give me XPlan Pricing should I choose to purchase another Ford. This is questionable due to the fact that the 2005 Ford Focus, 2004 Ford f-350 diesel, and now the thunderbird have all behaved badly. But never say never. I am a glutton for punishment
