Okay, I got under the hood one more time. Even though the computer did not detect any codes, and there doesn't appear to be anything physical that I could see, I still Changed the $100.00 Mass Air Flow sensor.
Guess what!?! Nothing Changed. Still have the same problem.
Listen, I could go on changing sensors all week long. The problem isn't evident and Jasper ford's tech's can't seem to find the issue. The problem is financial. We have spent over $1,000.00 and counting and the car does not run.
Dealer's are only offering $10,500.00 for trade. I currently own $15,962.18 on a car that would normally retail for $17,000 in great shape. I obviously cannot get my money out of the vehicle and I cannot justify continuing poring monies into it. Monies we do not have to spend.

We have been pre approved by Keesler Federal credit union to trade the car in. Just have to decide the best possible deal offered. If someone wants to purchase this car for what is owed, They may. It's sad to loose to the wholesalers, but eventually it would have had to go anyway.

Maybe you already have, but did you ever try a Lincoln dealer rather than a Ford dealer?

I only bring my retro to Lincoln dealers.

Ford dealers don't see enough of these cars to become "experts".

Same here Fiesta Lincoln knows birds! Never a problem with the 3 that I have owned.

Sorry to hear about all the problems. Usually the fix is simple...finding it is the problem. With these computer controled cars we have now, the problem is typically a sensor or the computer. Sounds like you have already tried a number of sensor changes. I would guess that the problem is the PCM (aka ECM to some people). This is the computer that reads the sensors and controls the engine. It is mounted on the firewall behind the glove box. Unfortunately it is not cheap and I have heard stories lately about it being hard to locate a new one. It might be worthwhile to try and install another PCM on a trial basis to see if that fixed the problems.

the problem is finances. Has I have stated I am unable to spend another dime on this car. SSDI and Veteran's benefits do not go very far in today's economy. Isn't going to get any better with government looking to cut benefits.

Just an FYI, even though they may have authorized a trade-in they will most likely move the loss to your next vehicle which may make you even further upside down that you currently are. Have you tried negotiating just turning the vehicle over to the finance company?

truning the vehicle over to the finance company is not an option. I have A-1 credit and certainly do not intend to mess that up in today's economy. I trade vehicles off about every three years anyway and worked at Transwest GMC in Brighton Colorado. I am fully aware how trades work. I also believe, due to the issues with this automobile that it will end up at a wholesale auction. Some fly by night dealer will buy it and put it off on some unsuspecting fool with poor credit. The car is destined to end up in a junk heap at that rate. Sad ending for a nice car.

i agree with taflocks-perhaps a faulty sensor telling the ecm that the engine is running hot and putting the car in limp mode. it might be cost effective to take it to a lincoln dealer who is familiar with ls/tbird rather than throwing parts at it. i do feel your pain-i have been there before!

KBB says "Good" condition 2002 with 30,000 miles is worth $17,500 trade-in value. Don't accept less, but you will be paying more monthly for a new car. I'm tempted to have you ship it to me, I'll get it fixed, then drive it back to you.
