  • My TBird drowned

Two weeks ago tonight our neighborhood was hit by a flash flood, we had 6 inches of rain in a matter of hours. The rain had nowhere to go. Flooding the basements and the neighborhood. We lost 5 cars. My 2002 TBird, 84 Mustang SVO, 04 Mach I Mustang, 06 Super Charged Mustand and my daily driver, a Ford Freestyle. All were in top condition. And the insurance company totalled all of them. Water was up on the consoles. And water still in some of the trunks and backseat areas. We have lived here for 37 years and have never had anything like this.
Our basement was a finished basement. It has now been gutted. There will be months of work down there if not years.
They are towing the cars away tomorrow. They smell awful! It has been a very trying 2 weeks. Tomorrow will be a very sad day.
We bought a Ford Flex Friday to replace my Freestyle--LOVE IT!
Then our dealer called on Saturday to tell us of a TBird-03. We bought it tonight. Black on Black. Very nice condition! Pick her up on Wednesday--have to get the others out of the garages before we can put anything in them. And I don't want the new one to be the way of damage!
    Thanks for listening!

I keep trying to just say it was just stuff. Thanks to God that no one was hurt or died during this. My neighbors lost parts of their foundations! And a friend told me that "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger!" Thanks for the kind words.

You have a terrific attitude toward life! I'm glad that only the cars were harmed and that you have found some replacements that you really like. Pictures of the new ones!

                Re: My TBird drowned

Oh, Laurel, that's awful. We had a bad hailstorm here in April that totaled one of our cars, damaged my enclosed trailer, and damaged our house. We're just now settling with the insurance company, and it has been such a stressful process. I can't imagine dealing with 5 cars (and difficult-to-replace cars, at that!) and the house - you are obviously handling it much better than I did! Congrats on your new purchases, and best of luck on the rest!

Living in hurricane country We see this sort of thing all tooo often. I too am glad you are moving forward and had insurance. Fortunately most of what you lost is replaceable at least in some similar form, but I recognize that it is NOT the same
                  Best of luck

Sorry to hear of your loss, Laurel. Sickening to even think about it and then the smell on top of that. Glad you were able to find a replacement for the tbird so quickly.

Very sorry to hear of your loss and all the mess that I know will take a lot of time to remedy. I've never heard of a flood in Akron before (I lived in Kent in the '50s & 60's)! Nature sure can turn on you. Glad you found another Bird, though, and I hope things will be back to normal soon.
