    Re: soft top question

Had the same thing on my cashmere.
There are some places on the west coast that will fix it and guarantee it for 3 years.
    Couldn't find anyone in Texas.
Decided not to try the back yard fixes (I must be getting old).
Coast me about $900 to replace the rear curtain with the glass.
Could have done it cheaper (around $700) if I bought the curtain on line and brought it to a soft top installer, But there would have been no labor guarantee.

Hi Josh, the glass was fine. New glass is not necessary, don't believe anyone who tells you that. They patched up the corners of the apholstery liner in the interior well, and then glued the canvas to the glass along the bottom edge of the glass. The patching was needed as a result of leaving the car outside here in FL, and waiting too long for the repair. Water got in and damaged the liner. The garage was finally relieved of some of its junk back in April, and the car is now stored indoors.

There ya go, Phil. We built our garage SOLELY for the purpose of our cars, not our crap. We have nothing else in our garage but our two cars...period.
I never could figure out why folks store $40 worth of junk in their garages and leave $40,000+ vehicles outside to the elements...just never made sense to me.

Jim, I have room for 4 cars and lots of stuff to. But I have 3 cars, 1 golf cart, and a riding mower plus all my stuff in it now.

You don't have a garage, Spence...you have a warehouse! Wish I had the land/property for something like that.

              Jim,
I have wondered about this for decades because I see it everywhere I go. The worst is when they have nothing in the garage but leave the car in the driveway. Figure that one out.

It's the lifting of the garage door that gets in the way. We solved that with automatic garage door openers.

The stuff is stuffed in an extra bedroom.

Well Jim, if it had been solely up to me, my car would have been in the garage within the first week here. Let's just say the circumstances of life kept getting in the way. Again, if it were solely up to me, by now we would easily have room for TWO cars in the garage, but the Bird barely fits in there. Maybe someday...

We solved the problem by renting a storage unit a couple of miles from our home. We had a two car garage with a motorcycle, two lawnmowers and three cars when we got the Tbird. The storage of the Tbird hardtop kind of forced the issue for more room. Now we have moved so much "stuff" to that unit it is almost full.

                      Re: soft top question

When it comes to replacing the top, don't consider price before quality. It isn't necessary to get an original equipment top but it is important to get the job done by a long in the business expert who has credentials and a list of satisfied customers. There are good after market tops and bad ones....good ones are double stitched, have "correct" back windows, fit like gloves and are backed by the installer. I had estimates for my new top from $1400 to $2500 and I took the $2500. My wife and I are used to getting complements on the car but since we had the new top installed, we get complements on that, too. I'm planning to keep the car going like an old 737, replacing everything at regular intervals. This old bird is becoming bionic....but worth every dime we've spent on it.
