  • Standing Beside Myself !

Have had a '02 Inspiration Yellow/Preformance White Bird since new - Premimum Pkg. with a total of 3,250 miles. Have added a NM Hood Bezel and Embrodered TBird Floor and Trunk Mat -- Addtionally have accumulated the Owners Gifts with Yellow Car was well as Press Kit with Yellow Car and many Dealer Goodies --

The issue had become that I am not driving the car despite the life long goal to keep it as my retirement hotrod - now it is becoming a musemum piece.

I am now stuggling with to sell or not, especially with all the goodies and if someone will appreciate the level of care to this point and finding someone who would enjoy the car and I had entended.

I would appreicate any input as to keep dusting with an occational drive or just cast fate to the wind and attempt to sell into today's market.

    Thanks

    Bill,

I hear not only your pain but your passion. We have our '05 willed to our grandson in our living trust. Each person's decision is based on each person's need.

If it was me, I'd keep it...dust it...and drive it when I could. But only you know your heart and your needs.

    Best wishes in your decision.
    Jim

      Do you need the money?
Do you need the space the car is taking up?
Do you not enjoy dusting it off?
Do you not enjoy driving it on occasion?
Do you not enjoy just going in the garage and giving a it look over?

A yes to any of the above get rid of it but your going to take a beating.

Bill - I graduated with a guy named Bill Kirsch - I see you live in Wickliffe - did you go to Kent State in the 60's?
Keep your Bird. You won't regret it. Just drive it more. Come to Nashville for the big event next summer!

As Elle said. Get out and drive it and come to Nashville next year. After that you'll be hooked and never think about selling it again.

Thank you all for your great comments --

Yes I still smile when I go to the garage and it has not become the "damn thing" in the way -

I did enjoy the video - does hit home -

Charley, have been in Wickliffe, Northeast of Cleveland for 45+ yrs but Kent State in the 60's was not part of the agenda, Uncle Sam was.

I would interested in the Nashville event if someone could point me in the right direction.

Please keep the comments coming - I am leaning toward keeping things as they are now - but more reports on bad mojo with coils, fuel pumps and other FOMOCO - Q1 issues may put a pox on those plans.

                Thanks

Elle will correct you, it's a her and not a him.

Bill, if you're going to have a car of any sort then there will be repairs. Each one has its own issues, ours have one or more of the ones you mentioned at some point, or maybe never; luck of the draw. You have very few miles on it, why not drive it a bit and see how you feel about it? Another 1,000 miles should have little impact on its value and give you a chance to get a handle on where it fits in your life. Whatever choice you make, I wish you the best of luck. One thing for certain, you won't find a finer forum, or group of people.

After reading your last post it seems to me your big concern is the cars dependability.
Its not your daily driver just go out and enjoy it breaks down get it fixed. I bought mine
used with 22,000 miles and I treat it the same way you treat yours. It hasn't seen rain
since I bought it and I spend more time cleaning it then driving it. As far as a daily driver
I would never recommend this car to anyone,it does have some problems. As a fun toy oh yes a ton of fun.

And as far as the big COPS scare nickel dime problem think back when you were told
you needed rings or a valve job those were problems.

                        Re: Standing Beside Myself !

Cars were made to be driven. They are not investments as they age with time and not driving them is worse! These are Halo cars, so it is a limited production and will be more money on repairs, thats a give in. It is what we get out of it when we are driving it. My wife and I enjoy the heck out of the car and that is why we drive it. Take care of it and you will be shocked at how well these can be everyday drivers. 02's don't have heated seats and don't have cops warranty so knowledgeable buyers will shred you to low ball you on your price. Good luck and think hard about this, you may not get another chance at a classic american made roadster.

                          Re: Standing Beside Myself !

First, you need someplace to drive it, especially if you don't use it for work.

Taking the same drive every weekend just to drive the car could get boring.

Second, do you need the money? Economics is always a big factor.

Third, would you replace it? With what?

Maybe you're in a position like me where a used SUV would be more practical than having two garage queens, since I'm now retired and have a ton of house projects to work on requiring a bigger vehicle.

Lot's of pros and cons to weigh.

But, decide carefully, because it's been almost 45 years, and I still wish that I had never sold my 65 Vette in 1967.

                            Re: Standing Beside Myself !

As far the maintenance and repairs. Remember you only hear about the ones that are having trouble, not the ones that go 100,000 with no issues. I bought mind with the thought I was going to only have regular maintenance and repairs. After reading a lot of people's problems with theirs on here I still look at it the same way. I'm going to drive it with only miner repairs. Think positive. I also have a 65 mustang that I know would go cross country with no major issues. So I say keep it if you are going to drive it.

What Spence said, Bill...it's Elle, not Charley. Charley's the Shelby guy - he doesn't post. Besides, he's a Va Tech Hokie, not a Kent State Golden Flash.
