Spare Tire (part 2)

Has anybody tried a 205/55/17 using the spare’s original wheel? On a tire calculator, it’s almost same height and about 0.80 inches wider.

the recommendation for that tire is 5 1/2 inch to 7 1/2 in the 5 1/2 inch is pushing it the spare is a 5 inch I personally wouldn't trust it or even the fact that it is made to be a spare rim. buy a 17x 7 inch rim that's made for driving and put a 205/55/17 on it

Probably no one tried it as a source for the spares that fit the spare rim was found. So far, the only problem tires seem to have been the Firestone tires on the 02 spare rims, not the MAXXIMs found on the 03 and newer tbirds spares.

Just wanting to edit the above statement. There have been at least one report of a MAXXIM tire exploding In a trunk since the above comment was made.

Brand of our spare is KUMHO...original spare size was size is 185 60 17...the new KUMHO spare is 135 80 17

I used a Goodyear all season 205/50R. Fits the rim,well and the cover fits. It only needs to be inflated to 35 lbs. as opposed to the original which I think was 60 so if it blows it won't be as bad. Plus I can drive more than 50 miles on if need be.

I went with the a Goodyear all season 205/50R17. It fits the Wheel well, the cover lays flat, and if I EVER need a spare at least I can drive more than 50 miles on it. In 14 years I never even removed my old spare. Most of us would probably just call for a tow anyway. No it does not match my other tires but I never plan o
