  • 1956-help with export Thunderbird

    Hi,
I've found a good looking '56 that I'm wanting to purchase-well, actually I think I've talked the spouse into a great Christmas present. The one I found is one of the 154 that were made for export. It has two vin numbers, one for each country. It also has kilometers on the speedometer & odometer. Is that going to hurt the value in shows or if I resell?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Perhaps the special odometer would enhance the value the 1956 T-Bird, but make sure the car has the "pedigree" to prove it is what it is, IMHO.

A history can run a value up or down but I would not want any surprises after the purchase.

I never heard of double VIN numbers in Export or any vintage T-Bird. I have a '55 and a '56 that were manufatured (assembled) in Mexico with metric speedometer, P5MEXH101xxx and P6MEXH100xxx.
Also have an export '57, D7FH122xxx, 40 QE XK 16K 82 0044 B, with miles in the speedometer.
I would be very careful. I think Porhole Authority has a lot of information on this, also Classic Thunderbird Club International CTCI, ctci.org should have a Data Plate Decoder.

I was interested to know how you knew there were only 154 Export t'birds made in 1956.
Is there a site that has information about the Export cars?

Double vin numbers could be one issued by a state or country after the car was rebuilt. Look for evidence of a bad wreck.

I wonder if "baybird" ever bought the car. She asked for help, but never came back.
