If it's LOCAL & it runs for $1K you can't go wrong as a parts car alone - The first good full year of the 4r70w Tranny was in 98 as they all have Mechanical Diode OWC - It's said only about half the 97 4r70w's had Mech Diode OWC when new - Some others were upgraded when properly O/H'd - If yours not you'll DEFINITELY be needing one someday SOON as that is what dies first in 97 Tranny - You'd still want a new TC & want to O/H the 98 Tranny Clutches & Software - Certainly if by some miracle they did'nt trash the DOHC 32V Motor that would be fun TOO... All MkVIII has independent rear so handles better if that's important to you - I have loved my 96 MkVIII for 14 years now~!

Yea I'm not sure if my tranny has that or not but the Mark Viii engine is just the engine by itself.

When it comes time for me to replace the tranny I'm going to get a 99+ 4r70w and try to find a Marauder/Crown Vic Sport torque converter.

Ok guys you are slipping, go back and look at the pictures there's something that is not right. No biggy but is there and is wrong. I know somebody had to see it.
This has nothing to do with problem you're having though.

Directional wheels someone mixed them up. I think it's the back needs to switch sides.

Very good possability, but also I have had many Fords and it is critical to change trans. fluid and the filter evry 40K miles or 3 years. I had 4 counting co. cars that shuddered bad and stopped when I serviced the trans. It has something to do with Ford's torque converter. My '94 F 150 has done it twicw and it cleared up both times

I didn't mean it that the wheels had anything to do with his shudder problem. Just thought it would be a little game to see of anyone else noticed them.

Caught that after reading your initial post and going back over the pictures.

My 94 Bird also has directional wheels.

Is that a Sport? Check the spring code for JJJJ or JJEE.

It's not a 97 Sport, it just looks like one!
