  • Hard to understand

    Hey guy's & gal's, I have been a member of this forum for several months now. I thoroughly enjoy visiting it everyday. I have learned a lot from reading many of the discussions, but I feel I'm missing out on some of the information provided by the fine contributors. There is a frequent use of acronyms in many of the discussions and for a long time forum reader they may be second nature, but for a new member they are Greek. I was wondering if there is a glossary for any of the acronym usage? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Markies

    Re: Hard to understand

    When I started visiting here I thought this was some kind of an evil, gang related site. There were all this people complaining about having troubles with the cops*.
    Sometimes the search helps, sometimes you just gotta ask. Welcome & good luck! :big smile:

These same people will be more than happy to help you in anyway they can. So join on in ask & you shall learn & have a good time while doing so.

        Re: Hard to understand

        Here are a few more:
        TBN - the abbreviation for this site, ThunderbirdNest
        SPL - supplemental parking light(s), the little ones that look like fog lights on the grill
        DRL - daytime running lights, which the Tbird doesn't have (but DavidA, a member here, has a fix for this, which he can show you)
        5R55S - Ford's designation for the Tbird transmission
        3.9L - shorthand name for our engine
        Each color paintjob for the Tbird has its own abbrviation, & since there were a couple dozen different paint colors, there are a lot of these abbreviations. The only 2 worth knowing are MSB (your color) & LIB (my car, light ice blue). Other members will chime in with their useless abbreviations, but just overlook them. They're pretenders & wannabee's who had to settle for dealership leftovers.
        LOL - We yuk it up a lot on this site, with a lot of ribbing (for example, about which color paint job is the best-looking, which color is the fastest, stuff like that.)
        Finally, look at a website called The Porthole Authority, if you haven't done so. It will teach you just about all you want to know about the Retro Tbird, beginning with Wixom. Will

            List the acronyms you are not familiar with.

            Otherwise, we're all just guessing.

              Must apologize for the incorrect information that was just passed along to you by THE expert on T-Birds, but as EVERYONE knows, nothing enhances the flavor of driving a retro-bird like driving an MSG w/saddle interior.

                Good thing Markies hasn't run into Susters or Nudo's. There would be a whole new discussion and they might come out lurking again. The Susters & Nudo's have beenquiet for years.

                      I thought that Torch Red was the fastest and with the trunk mat it increasted it to 10 mph.

                          hmmmmm, I always thought that...

                          MSG = Makes Some Groan
                          IY = It's Yucky
                          WW = Whatta Waste

                          Thank you for clarifying this for me, Dot.
                          Imagine, all these years. Only recently I realized that TR = Torch Red, not Truly Royal.

                            Black is definitely the fastest and is wicked fast with some bolted-on streamlining.
