  • Waterless Wash Any Experience?

I've been looking at ads about waterless car wash products. Thinking it would be, maybe, a good idea to take along on long road trips to clean-up the car if water was not available in a hotel parking lot.

Has anyone had experience with these products? Good Bad or Ugly I'd like to know.

Not sure what waterless car wash is. I have used spray on detailer but that's all I have ever heard of.

It's like using gallons of cologne everyday instead of showering...but then again, my ancestors are from France.

Not sure just what France has to do with this subject.
I would like to know what he is talking about.

Well, the joke he was making is the old one about French people not taking many showers, and using lots of cologne instead to mask the smell.

Yea, I know, but has nothing to do with the subject.

I think this is what Mike is refering too. I have not tried, but might out of curiosity.

Mark, Thanks for the link. Don't think it's for me but if it works for someone it may be something to look at.

I bought some a while back to use on the other cars, but have not tried it yet. Maybe this week. If I do, I'll report my impression. The product is from Griots.

I been using waterless car wash on my motorcycle for years, and if you follow the directions correctly, it works very good. I also used it on my '08 F-150 twice over the winter, and I liked the results on that too. However, neither of these vehicles were caked with mud, or salt, or real heavy dirt. There's a gentleman from Jersey who sets up his table every week at our motorcycle runs, and I've watched him clean bird crap, heavy dirt, etc. off different peoples cars and bikes and they all turned out fine. To use the product I have is pretty simple, spray a small section with a light mist of the cleaner, wait about 30-40 seconds, and wipe off in with a micro fiber cloth. You can either turn the cloth over, or use a second cloth to buff it out. You should only wipe the vehicle in a back and forth direction, or up and down, using straight strokes only, as the directions state. It leaves a nice coat of wax on the paint too. My bikes a deep red color, my trucks white, both clear coated, and they both looked good when I finished, no smears, or white wax residue. I also use it on the chrome and black plastic parts, and they come out shiny too. Since none of my vehicles ever go to a car wash, it works when I can't wash the vehicles outside in the winter.

I use Fast Wax, FW1. Seems to do a good job, but I don't use it on heavy dirt. I think it's from France.

I watched the video about cleaning the Ferrari and the results -at a distance, are nice. The bottom line, I think, is that for light dirt, dust, and with a VERY light hand and VERY clean cloth, you can probably safely clean a vehicle. In my estimation, no matter what the formulation, it does not dissolve dirt, rather it allows it to be carried off through the use of a surfactant -something that lowers the surface tension along with a lubricating medium, possibly an emulsified wax, allowing the liquid to carry off its cargo and probably a bit of an emulsifier to take care of road oil and organic matter, basically how soap works, except this has a lubricating agent to allow material to easily slide off onto the cloth. Once in a while is probably no worse than putting a car cover on a car you drove home from work; there will be a minor amount of dragging dirt/dust as it is removed. If you use a detailing spray, that will mask nearly all fine scratches. A lot of words to say that I think it would work. Probably.

I've been using this product for years. Have never used a hose on any of my cars. The shine is brilliant!
