I bought my '04 2 months ago off ebay, 43,000 miles, excellent shape and I couldn't be happier, $15,800!

        Priceless.
Heck, not every investment pays off.
A $2000 loss on an investment is a pittance in today's world and that kind of loss on an auto over 10 years is pretty darn rare. After-all the money could have been invested in Bank of America stock.

          Re: MECUM AUCTION,INDY

There are very few cars that sell for more than what they cost after 10 years, 20 years is another story. 1955-1957 Tbirds were not selling for huge sums in 1965-67. In 1973 I saw a Duesenberg at Hershey that was purchased for $40,000 and restored to 98 points for an additional $40,000. Today that car is a $1,500,000 car.

            Re: MECUM AUCTION,INDY

Watching Mecum, I can't help but wonder "where have all the Fords gone? Gone to graveyards, every one." (Peter, Paul, and Mary)

I hear the same question over and over when I put my Galaxie in car shows.

            My answers,

            1) GM was king in the American car glory days. As young men in the late 50's/60's, we didn't buy Galaxies or Mercurys or TBirds; we bought Impalas and GTO's and, to a lesser extent, Corvettes.

So, what cars do we restore? Cars from our youth, not cars that dad drove.

            2) Fords did rust out pretty quick in the snow country areas. I had to make a big decision to repair a lot of rust when I decided to restore my car in the 70's.

Bottom line, I'm getting kind of bored watching Camaros, Impalas, BelAirs, etc over and over and over. But, thanks to the wonder of the DVR, I DVR the show and fast forward through 80% of the cars.

              Re: MECUM AUCTION,INDY

By the mid sixties Chrysler began to give GM and Ford a run for there mone by with their performance more than style. The impracticle cars like 2 seaters and muscle cars are todays hot tickets leadind to the huge interest in making older restored classics into Resto-Rods. Talk about a price jump theese cars are crazy at the auctions. I still think our cars have bottomed out and while rhey may not surpass new price for many more years it is definately the time to buy one and not loose anything. Enjoying a car for a number of years and getting your money back is a big return to me.

                  Re: MECUM AUCTION,INDY

This morning after dropping my dog off at the groomers, I stopped at a local diner for coffee and breakfast. There was a guy in there with pictures of a 30 Ford pick-up that he had bought at the Mecum Auction in Indy. I started a conversation with him and asked him if he happened to notice a Yellow 02 TBird come across the block and he said yes and there was quite a bit of interest in the car. He said if there had been more they would've all sold. I told him I have a spotless Black 04 with 20K on it and he said it would've easily sold for 30K or more. Who knows!
