Re: New Record for Longest Curzin in a TBird?

Hoping to do a New Jersey to Northern New Hampshire roadtrip with the retro to visit the mountaintop where I spread my folk's ashes. I haven't been up there in about six years.

They loved their one week NH vacation every summer.

After my dad died, and I spread his ashes on that mountain, I could tell my mom liked the idea, so it was something that we agreed to without ever saying a word.

After numerous visits to Ford for her tranny issues, I've been found "curzin" mine on several occasions!

We left on Friday 4/27/12 and will be back to Branson, MO on 12/4/12.

We are having a great time curzin in the Tbird.
With that load you might want to adjust your headlights.

Have a great trip. We did a seven month 10K last summer.
South Texas to Upper Michigan. Gettin' ready to do it again this year.

          Have a good trip

OK, I wanted to get one more trip on my 7yr old tires. Glad I didn't throw out the spare to get more trunk space. I did replace all 4 tires after about 170 miles on the spare.
It was hard to find the right size in the middle of Utah on I-70.

                Ed,
I'm enjoying your journey. Keep sending photos. Bye-the-way, thanks for doing the confirmation tire testing. I've heard that 7 years was the limit - you just proved it to my satisfaction. Also enjoyed your sense of humor.

Glad to help.. but no more tire testing in Utah for me.

I would also recommend that you put a new Valve Stem in the spare. Mine did leak but we were at the last exit on I-70 for a 110 mile section with no service when we had the blowout. Put a new valve stem in and the old spare (10yrs at least) did great at 55-60 mph.

Wow, Ed, you like to live on the edge! 7 year old tires and a 10 year old Firestone spare that has been known to spontaneously blow up in the trunk much less on the road is living on the edge for sure. Any damage to the rim from the blow out?

I know you are a man of great faith but that might be stretching it a little, my friend. Be safe out there.

Rim had no damage that I could tell. Yes, we are going to get a new spare tire. I will not remove it for extra space. We are staying in the Capitola/Santa Cruz area for a month.. We do not want any more excitment with the Tbird. Found the tires at Big O tire store and was glad they had 4. Most stores that we called had to order that size (235 50 17)

When Brian Metzger and I took our "epic" road trip (his son's adjective) we traveled 10,900 miles between May 26th and July 2nd. Detailed "Annie" and then went to Detroit's "Downriver Cruise", in Brian's '36 Chevy Hot Rod. We made it to most of the big National Parks out west and now I know where to take Barbara after she retires from The Citadel.
