  • Tbird soft top.

Hello , I read on one of the past posts that it is suggested that the soft top be put in the up position even while it is sitting in the garage. Does anyone do this? My bird only goes out in good weather so the soft top is alwas down and protected with the after market soft cover.
    Thank you,
    Al

    Hi Albert
When we have the hardtop off, we only store the car in the garage with the top up and the windows closed. I do this simply to keep dust, etc, out of the passenger compartment (living in Phoenix, dust seems to be everywhere).

It's good to keep the soft top "up" when possible to keep it stretched and minimize creases. I have a white top which shows the smallest of creases so keeping the top up extends its life.

Ok! Thank you. I shall start doing that.

          Re: Tbird soft top.

I had a new top installed last year...replaced sand with black because of the streaks and staining showing on the tan color. The installer said that even though the black would hide the damage done by the top being down, limiting the time the top is down is helpful in keeping it in good shape. Also, there has always been an issue with the light colored tops on TBirds...some posters have had good luck with efforts to keep the staining to a minimum but, in general, black is the best way to go.

I always put the top up when I park the car, even in my garage.

Due to the need to replace the fuel pump the hard top on the Neiman Marcus had to come off. That marked the 1st time the hard top was off and the soft top was up. The soft top was in 100% perfect condition. Now keep in mind that the NM is the ultimate GQ so no water and very little dust as it's always covered. On the DSB the soft top stays down all winter while the car is in storage. It as well is in perfect shape. But it also never sees water is covered in the garage and gets around 1,000 miles a year. Both tops are cleaned regularly with a medium brush. The soft top on the DSB is soaked in 303 every couple of years. The soft top on the NM just got its 1st treatment. I do not recommend using 303 on the light colored tops as it’s “greasy” and think it may attract / hold dirt
