Bird not happy today

My 02 started having electrical problems this past Sunday. Key fob wouldn't lock the doors so had to manually lock them. Just glitched that one time. Later that day, no problem. Then yesterday had to stop for gas (let it get too low). First pump was reader challenged so had to move car to another pump. Car hitched on way to that 2nd pump. After putting some gas in, it started but only ran on about 4 cylinders for about 50 yards then died. It cranks but won't start.

We called for a ride since we were going out for dinner then later came back and flat bedded it home for the night. George took it into the dealer's shop this morning. Haven't heard back from him yet.

We're thankful for our neighbor with the flatbed trailer and truck otherwise we probably would have had to wait around for awhile for AAA to show up.

How old is the battery Dot?
And how many miles on the '02?

Keeping my fingers crossed that it's a minor fix.

I certainly hope your luck is better than ours was. Plus I had to wait for the AAA guy in the evening for the first diagnosis and then meet the tow truck driver the next day since the dealer was closed.

Battery is only 6 months old -- in the car (as we had to replace the original last fall) - however it had sat on the dealer's shelf for at least 6 months prior so it does make me nervous.

Dot, Hope this isn't the problem but allowing the tank to go to empty you may have overheated the fuel pump. Just something to think about.

I thought that the low fuel tank had been proven to be false;

Our pump is in its own well so as long as you have ANY gas in your tank the pump is getting cooled off by the gas surrounding it. So the low gas tank fuel level failure does not apply to us on this car. Randy (312)

Charlie, not saying that's the problem but could be a possibly. But then I'm sure you know a lot more about cars then I do.

My car is an '03. Does it have a "battery dot"? I changed it but I don't recall any lines or dots or anything....

Sounds similar to ours a couple of years ago. Drove for about an hour with car running perfectly, then stopped to fill up. Upon leaving the gas station, the car chugged for about 50 yards and then died. Made no attempt to start even though the battery continued to crank strongly. Turned out to be one of the fuel pumps.

I'll mention that to George. He emphatically told me that when a fuel pump went, it would stop dead and the car limped along before it went dead.
