  • Report from my 1st 1000mile roadtrip.

This last week I took my 1st roadtrip, about 900miles. Most of the time I was on Rt.322 and I-80 in the Mountains of PA. Great 4 lane roads. I was running about 70 -80 most of the way. The tracking was as true as an arrow! The alinement must be spot on. I was running 4 orig COPS and 4 of the (8 for $77) COPS I bought on E-bay. No engine codes, no misses even under heavy acceleration.

The book say we need 91 octane or better so I filled up with HT(93) BP fuel and when it got to 1/2 I topped off with MG(89) BP Gas. I did this twice on the trip and had no pinging. Over all mileage was 27.47mpg. I have 72000+/- miles with new sparkplugs. I'm very happy.

BTW I had the HT on but at 75 with the windows down I could smell the smell some of you have posted about. To me it was a chemical smell????

Good mileage at those speeds. I would love to do that (Going to OK for a week or so) but my back won't take the bird's seats (Ruptured disc). Taking the Grand Marquis.

Glad you had a good trip. I am notorious for driving 1,000 miles in a straight haul. Once I get going, sometimes I just keep at it. Makes for a long day, but each time the car handled well and after awhile, you get in a groove. Having good tunes on the iPod always helps.

When I bought my Bird on Ebay I flew to New York to pick it up and drove it home to Alabama. I was very pleased with the driving characteristics of this car. It was smooth and quiet at high speeds and always tracked straight and true. I found the seats to be surprisingly comfortable too. It was a nice bonding experience with my new toy. I'll be driving it to Nashville next month and except for the very limited luggage capacity I think it's a great road car.

Parkling lot in West Memphis, Arkansas to my garage in Brick, NJ... 1,111 miles in one day. Smooth all the way...

I wish I could get over 19 MGP, What am I doing wrong. Maybe triple digits is the cause? Think?

I don't think so Monte. Better mileage comes with controlled driving; use the cruise control, stay below 75, make sure your tires are properly inflated, don't use brakes when you can safely coast to a lesser speed -a lot of braking equals mileage going down, avoid flooring it when on entrance ramp. You will gain mileage, but lose some fun. You plays you pays. As a daily driver I'm a lot more careful about mileage than if I just drove it for weekends. Good luck.

Monte, My trip was on great roads not much stopping and I used the CC most of the way. I also checked my air press at each fuel stop due to a slow leak in one tire.

My guess would be about 19-20 mpg around town. I'm checking that now.

I'd love to check my mileage but I'd rather hear it hum when you push the pedal a little bit harder....get's the adrenalin flowing especially when you do it front of two motorcycle cops.....ooops....down boy!!!!
