  • Retro Birds Future Values

There are two 2002 Thunderbirds being sold in the very near future. It
seems these cars were originally purchased as investments and not to be
driven. I'm thinking the selling price of these cars will be a good barometer as
to the future value of the Retro Birds.

Why does this seem to consume some folks thoughts around here? No disrespect meant to John as the thread originator, just a question I'm interested in.

This is supposed to be a site for Thunderbird enthusiasts. How enthused can anyone be if they are always worried about what their car is worth now or going to be worth sometime in the future? All I'm worried about is if ours will last as long as we do at our current rate of fun, fun, fun.

Unless the cars sell for much more than $40,000 each the owner has lost money and hasn't had any fun with them. I'm the last person in the world to give financial advise, but anyway you cut it, these cars are going to be money losers for the owner.

          Re: Retro Birds Future Values

It appears lately the Retro Birds getting the best prices are through auctions like Barrett-Jackson were they get buyers that appreciate mint condition cars. Doesn't really indicate future values of everyday drivers or cars that are not mint. Leroy

Yep, I agree. The only entity concerned about the worth of my 2 T-Birds is the city of Norfolk, and its assessment of their value, which, by the way, is on the decline. I have no problem with that, as it reduces my annual property tax bill (which is coming up in less than a month). If someone or something decides my Birds are worth more, please do not tell the Norfolk city treasurer!

I don't see a contradiction between being an "enthusiast" and keeping an eye on the value of the cars. Doing so doesn't necessarily make someone "always worried." If they become that way, it's another discussion. Heck, some people here believe that certain colors are faster than others.

I won't tell the Treasurer if you don't tell the authorities here that they forgot to tax something. We have enough taxes already.

You don't pay taxes on your car? Who'd a thunk?! Never heard of that...unless your annual tags cost more than ours. Yeah, that must be the ticket.

In general, I don't think it is the same group as the "what's my car worth" crowd.

Pay an annual registration fee of around $80. Nothing for the antique.

No tax at all on cars in Tennessee, however, the tags are $24 every year.
