  • PROTOTYPE Pictures etc.

Over the years, since it's inception, we have seen many prototype pictures or scetches of new and upcoming years of Thunderbirds prior to its actual production units in various magazines or news releases etc. Just wondered if there are any out there that may not have made the news publications etc. and could be in the hands of some of us 'car crazy ' Thunderbird owners.

Most likely the first prototype unit would be the " burnetti " prototype cobbled '53. Probably have that here somewhere.

Here is a sample but not a T'bird. Probably one of the first.

    Re: PROTOTYPE Pictures etc.

I have some of the black concept 1999 Thunderbird but haven't been able to lay my hands on for the last few years. No unpublished prototypes though other than those already published, even for earlier years of 'birds. The book 2002 thunderbird has a number of prototypes, many of which have not made it to the net that I'm aware of - maybe copyright law is still keeping them off the net??

For anyone that liked the 1961 year style, here is a very nice site that shows quite a few prototype pictures. Back in the early years most styles ran for 3 years where the '61 was followed by the '62 and '63.

1962 had the introduction of the 'sport roadster 'and continued in '63. One was planned for '64 but never made it to production and the market. Here is a 'roadster 'proposal that never made it. A tonneau cover and wire wheels were available as factory or dealer options for '64.

I'm glad Ford decided to use a clean modified Lincoln design for the '61 Tbird.
