No, not my retro; my 94 LX.

Got the dreaded "check engine" light yesterday right after the car seemed to miss. I also noted that she's been cranking a bit more on cold start ups.

I've been hunting for a used, late model, low mileage Explorer. Looks like I'll have to up the search.

At 152,000 miles and with a lot of other issues, the TBird's reached the end, with me, anyway.

18 years; been a nice car.

A lot of people hate getting rid of that generation Tbird. The dashboard design and IRS were just a couple of features that made it unique. TBN member, "FUNDERMAN," got rid of his a couple of years ago because it had almost 200,000 miles and a transmission problem. He had owned it since new it had been repainted a few years before he parted with it. He loved the car. He ended up giving it to a relative.

I had a 95 LX 40th Anniversary Edition. Sold it in 2001 when I ordered the 02. It only had 30,000 on it at the time. The one I wish I had back was my 1987 Inter Cooled Turbo Coupe.

        So true.

The car has the best designed dashboard of any car that I've ever owned. Dash also sweeps into the door panels.

Makes you feel like you're in a plane's cockpit.

But, the 94 and up dash is nicer than the earlier year, IMHO.

My wife has a 1994 LX, 4.6 and it just turned 40,000 miles a few days ago. Except for tires, brakes, serpentine belt and plug wires it is the same as the day it was delivered. It has always been garaged and not many people will believe that it is 18 years old. I've tried to convince her that it is time to get a new car, but she refuses to even discuss it.

              Jerry,

              Is the car gone?

              Ken,

              Nice car!

                Not yet.

I still need to find a replacement before I junk it or trade it in. I will not try to sell it privately because I'd have to list all it's problems. Finding a buyer would be too much of a hassle.

I might ask the mechanic (who worked with me when we changed my Galaxie's motor) to do a code check, but, regardless, it's getting to the point where 1) I can't trust it any further than ten miles from my house and, 2) I don't want the wife driving it.

I still think that these cars will hold up and become popular when they hit that 25 year old point. They still look elegant even after 19 years.

                  Re: One Less TBird

I'm driving my '95 SuperCoupe to work this week as part of the rotation among it, the '02, and the '12 SHO.

Odometer quit about 6 years ago at 195,183 miles. V-6 with a 5 speed.

Still love to drive that car.

If the car runs as good as it looks, I'd keep it.

As I posted above, I think these cars will become popular as they age, but that's just my opinion.

Just keep an ear out for the dreaded third/fourth gear shudder when shifting. Very common in these cars.

There's always someone over at TCCoA looking for these, either for fixer uppers or parts. I'm pretty fond of mine!

Found a 2010 Explorer Limited, loaded (GPS, 7 speaker rado, 6 CD payer, power third seat, etc), 11,000 miles on a dealer's lot. Full bumper/bumper till 3/13. Original window sticker in the trunk (42K list).

Tri tone white, black leather interior. Very attractive.

28K with my TBird (first shot from the dealer), so I'll see if he can do any better and make a move from there.

                          Jerry,

I would say he would have to be in the low low 20's before I would trade. I have almost the exact 2010 (less GPS plus DVD for rear seat) that I bought new for around 39,500. January 2011. Considering the T-Birds are on dealers lots for 25 + you should get a least 20 making the trade at 19,500. Just my opinion.
