As I posted elsewhere, I am a new owner of an '05 bronze. After taking the hardtop off for the first time, I discovered the scuff marks where the top rests on the car. The Mylar tape packet has apparently never been used. Is there any way to restore the surface with buffing or some recommended cleaning solution?

Re: Newbie help
If you can feel the scratches with you fingernail they are too deep to buff out. I also have very light problem areas and am preparing to experiment with a fix.
Going to clean all wax off the area in question and lightly wet sand and spray a thin layer of clear coat....let it cure and again lightly wet sand...Then apply Mother's scratch remover and vigorously buff repeatedly with heavy pressure until I bring back the shine to the clear coat....I feel fairly confident it will work. Going to take before and after pictures and post if successful...

Re: Newbie help
Another alternative would be to cover the scratches with one of these protective trims.

Re: Newbie help
Greetings Newb... I have found the SS deck strips work very well that the top sits on. I have them on my car. If you purchas them look ahead at the size. They now have 2 sizes. I have the small width on mine. You can not see them when top is on. Very easy to in stall. good luck on this project...sigpic

Re: Newbie help
I also recommend this approach as I had the same problem.

Re: Newbie help
I was concerned at first and had to buff out some small scratches I keep that area waxed and clean and clean the top gasket good each time. It still loks good and if it eventually looks bad I will put the stainless strips on. The ones I have seen seem like the edges are a little sharp and could use a better finish or buffing on the edge.
