1962 Ferrari GT 250 dead battery, rotted tires, bad fan belt no

P.S. I would think both Birds will be over $40,000 with buyers premium.

Beware of tread seperation. The tires can look perfect but the steel belted portion can rot causing the tread to seperate at speed. I had a blow-out earlier this year w/my '75 Pontiac convertible. The Firestone WW radials were 9-years old in perfect visual condition. They had 8,000 miles on them and one came apart while I was doing 70mph.

Key problem is in red, but I agree that no matter the brand it could have happened easy enough with heat build up at highway speeds.

My question to everyone is - why risk your or someone else's life and your expensive OEM rims for the sake of putting of the inevitable. The tires are going to have to be replaced at some point anyway, why not do it before something or someone gets hurt?

Yes, I suppose you would have problems with dry rotted belts, tires, etc. But, as a couple other have mentioned above, otherwise, you've got a brand new car! Lindy's right, many were hoarded for investments as soon as they came out. They probably won't bring the money the hoarders hoped for, but I'd bet both will fetch $35,000 to $40,000.

L.A., since you are new here on TBN, I thought you should be aware of this problem.

You have a 10 year-old spare tire, you probably should replace it ASAP with a Maxxis compact spare tire of the same size. Some of the OEM Firestone spare tires have blown up in the spare tire well. Search on the word "spare tire" here in TBN to find out more information about replacing the original spare tire.

                  Jerry:
Thanks for the advice. Yes, you're probably right; I'm sure it's the original spare tire. Will search. Thanks again.

With this logic you should replace your tires every 90 days just to be on the safe side.

Don't have a false sense of security or fear solely based on tire age.

From personal experience my wife's car had a badly dry rotted set of tires on her car that were only 14 months old!

Inspect your tires often, my corner mechanic discovered our dangerous tires. In my experience Ford dealers seem to focus on tread wear and don't seem to look closely for sidewall dry rot.

If the person who buys this car intends to drive it, they may end up spending another 2-3,000 to get it road ready. It would be fun having a 'brand-new' TBird again:)

We have a yellow 2002 with just over four thousand miles.
I just retired and we are gonna drive it.

I just bought my 2004 T-bird in May with 6700 miles on it. I will drive it on weekends not to work since I drive over 70 miles a day to work. Should I be worried over the original tires?
