I recently went with a full size spare tire for TEABIRD, and in the process I had to replace my OEM trunk-well cover with a piece of clear Lexan plastic. My trunk mat is now UNDER the plastic, but visible. See the following thread:

I just wanted to assure other Trunk Mat Club Members that the significant HP improvement due to the trunk mat is only slightly diminished by it being under clear plastic. However, I did a test with opaque plastic and sadly, TEABIRD's performance was severely degraded. It looks like you have to be able to see the mat to get the extra performance.......

Yep, I have this mat. I actually have a clear mat for the entire trunk that protects this mat and the trunk space. Not idiot proof but it is a barrier. Kids liked the feel of the mat initially but now all they can do is only look at it through the mat protector. No touchy!!!

LOL... they like to help detail the car... usually vacuum out the trunk.. Actually, there is not enough room in that trunk for all my kids! Wouldn't be a bad place to hide from them though...

TBird1stLuv, Thank you for bringing up this old thread. I don't recall ever reading it all the way through. Brightened my day! Now I need to find where I've stashed some of my trunk accessories as I haven't seen them in quite a while. No wonder my car has been going slower these days.

I am guessing that it has to do with asking forgiveness instead of asking for permission. Many of us were extremely surprised when a firm that many of us did business with (Thunderbird Concepts ) went out of business almost overnight. They probably weren't asking permission (royalty payments etc) and it probably caught up with them. Maybe Ford was diligent in their ongoing investigations of maybe some one ratted them out. Guessing it will catch up with them eventually.

I took a set of plain black to our local shop who had equipment and personnel capable of doing but they would not touch it due to licensing .
