I recently went with a full size spare tire for TEABIRD, and in the process I had to replace my OEM trunk-well cover with a piece of clear Lexan plastic. My trunk mat is now UNDER the plastic, but visible. See the following thread:

I just wanted to assure other Trunk Mat Club Members that the significant HP improvement due to the trunk mat is only slightly diminished by it being under clear plastic. However, I did a test with opaque plastic and sadly, TEABIRD's performance was severely degraded. It looks like you have to be able to see the mat to get the extra performance.......
