  • Worried About the Spare Tire, Here Is Alternative

If you are concerned about the age of the spare tire and thinking of replacing it.....

Or planning a trip and want more space in the trunk.....

Here is an alternative I spotted today in the most recent Griot's Garage catalog. Look here for a full description.

    http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/...om=Search&cx=0

I have nothing to do with Groit's other than I use their products.

That may work for a flat tire but if you have a blow out or hit something on the road you still need a spare....

Had this on the MB AMG...it was useless if the tire was seriously damaged. Only useful for a puncture or something of similar nature.

        Thanks for posting this Mike.

Though for flats that are intact and have only a puncture, a couple of cans of 'Fix-a-Flat' for $ 5-6 each is just as effective and a lot less expensive.

Most Mustangs come with a kit like that now. Spare tire is a option now. First thing I did was order the spare tire kit. Like someone said, a cut or blow out and you are done.

I have a kit like that - it came in my $50K Volvo. The first time I used it, it cost $400 for a new tire and $75 to replace the kit.

My new Cadillac has the same system which has me a bit concerned. I can see two reasons for GM to go this route. One,is to same money the other is to lessen the weight which increases the gas mileage. I certainly would feel more comfortable having a real spare tire especially when going long distances.

Considering traffic these days, it makes little sense to jack up your own car to change a tire. Get a tow truck between you and traffic with AAAor your favorite insurance plan.

Absolutely, plus when I travel I doubt I would have room to put the full size tire back in the trunk lol

Which brings up the age old topic of traveling in a roadster. Choices are required and for me it's a good spare tire. For a long trip or extended stay it's my expedition For the Tbird it's a full size spare..
