I saw this ad for a smart phone linked back-up camera. Found it interesting if not a bit pricey. https://pearlauto.com/rearvision

Re: Wireless back up camera.
All electronic gadgets drop in price. I think these add-on rear cameras will sell well since most new vehicles have them and owners get very dependent on them. I will likely put one on both the Bird and My truck, since I will likely keep both.

Looks like you have to glue a piece of metal on the back of your iPhone or iPhone case. When getting a new phone, I suppose you have to purchase a new glue-on metal piece in order to use the magnet mount.
Too bad it needs Bluetooth 4.0. I have an older Android (large display) phone that has Bluetooth 1.0. It would have been a good use for this camera. So, I will need to use my iPhone 6. I have an older iPhone 5 that would work, but I need the bigger display of the iPhone 6.
The license frame is solar powered. What if, my car is in the garage for a couple of days and I need it at night in a parking garage at a hospital? Does it have batteries in the license plate frame also?
It is a nifty gadget. I would not preorder a $500 device as is suggested.

This same basic $50 thing would require a $1,000.00 radio with a 7" screen ready for a camera input. I have thought about that. But, for now, I like to keep using the OEM radio and the interior dash original.

Re: Wireless back up camera.
In lieu of a $1,000 radio try a $100 portable GPS. Just checked e-bay tons of used GPS navigation systems very cheap.Last edited by Peterfurlan; Aug 28, 2016, 10:04 AM.

The rearview mirror thing would take too much work for me and wiring changes to make it look good.

I am entertaining the idea of a new LCD radio and keeping the OEM one if I ever want to put it back to factory specs. I believe Crutchfield has the stuff to do this. And this radio would also have GPS.
Does anyone know if the Crutchfield Pioneer radio installation requires wire cutting so as to make it harder to go back?2002 TB Motor Trend COTY Blue/White/Full #24737 (One of 291)

Re: Wireless back up camera.
Having had several aftermarket units installed I can say that with most aftermarket installs you have to have a minimum of one main interface that's usually a plugnplay set up and an interface to retain steering wheel controls. The main interface runs around 120-150$ and the steering wheel interface around 70$. Plus a faceplate to complete the install. Rear camera can be anywhere from 70 to 150$ depending on what kind you decide on. If you trade off the car, it's fairly simple to just unplug the new stuff and install the old radio. Plugs will stay the same.Rex

Thank you very much for the informative reply including the answer I was looking for. Plug and play and no wire cutting.
Thanks again
