  • Dashboard question

My newly purchased 2003 bird has a power mirror problem: Both mirrors will not go up. They go left to right and will go down but not up. I assume the controller joystick is bad and since it's cheap I will replace it and hopefully fix the problem.

How do I get the chrome dress trim off the dash to access the switch and does the switch simply come out of the dash from the car side ? Looks like a simple plug-in switch assembly from what I can see.

    Any assistance welcome.

Got this done. Biggest challenge was learning how those clips held on...I kept turning and turning...then I figured out how they released...worked out great. Thanks everyone.

I was curious how the panel they are mounted on releases as well, looks like that has to be popped off first.

Went through this thread unfortunately the files do not open and I am point where I removed the bottom dash panel and now have the vertical chrome panel as in the picture. How does this come off, I am scared to keep pulling and tugging on it. I am replacing the PW mirror switch.

After more digging around with another search (Dash Panel), I found the schematic on how to do it, now to go and try it. ///////Took about 20 or so minutes and my mirrors are functional again.

Any chance someone can re-upload this PDF how-to? My mirror switch stopped working and I’d like to fix it.

                  Thanks in advance!

Swapped out the mirror switch today. From start to finish it was about 8 minutes.

The thing that helped me the most—other than the good info on this site—was the pry tool to prise the plastic rivets out. That made everything so much easier.

Total cost: $15.50 for switch, with 1-day delivery from Amazon.

                      Boom.

Are the plastic rivets reusable ot have to have new ones? anything that I should be careful about when doing this? thanks

I love Ford for their consistency. The switch and location is the same on my 2004 Bird and on my 2019 Ranger. And a PIA on both of them. My little Mazda 2 has it conveniently on the drivers door control panel.
