  • Cruise Control Switch

On the '03 I recently bought, the CC won't engage (it did for just a few miles yesterday, but when I hit the brake, it disengaged, of course and I can't get it to come back on.

The advantage on having more than one TBird is that I can switch out parts to test (in fact, I've now decided that having more than one is a necessity).

I checked the fuse first, it's fine.
Then the disengage switch on the brake bracket (switched over from an '04), it's fine.
So I'm now at the Speed control switch on the steering wheel. I'm thinking of just getting a new one, rather than pulling one off another Bird....I'm pretty sure it's the culprit and they are around for $45 to $65.

My plan was to disconnect the battery and pull the air bag fuse, let it sit for 30 minutes and then pull the switch.

    Any suggestions or recommendations?

I'd look at the clock spring as the culprit.

        Re: Cruise Control Switch

Mine has been glitching for 7 months now. Probably as a result of running over some nasty, unavoidable debris in the road last June as that's when it started acting up. I can still get it to run but the set button point seems to rove around on the button, sometimes activates when I push the center point, sometimes at one of the 4 corners. I also have to turn it all the way off and then back on to get it to reset to a new speed. Plus I have to get off of speed control with the brake pedal now, instead of the Cancel button. Someday, spouse will fix...

          Dot,
Too bad the Hardtop thing didn't work out, I could have "fixed" yours while you were here. I should be totally experienced in it by then.
