  • A Thunderbird in Japan

Here is an article in today's New York Times about selling American cars in Japan. About half-way through the article is a picture of Yshihiro Masui, a semi-retired music producer, with his 2003 WW Thunderbird retro. He claims to have owned about 70 US made cars.

Odd to see the Thunderbird there. Ford did show one at an auto show in Japan but Ford didn't make a right hand drive Thunderbird.

One of complaints (the article says) about the U.S. automakers is that they don't make right hand drive cars. The article says one that does is Jeep (which does sell in Japan); this is said to be because of making the Postal Service delivery vehicles which have right hand drive so the mail persons can put the mail in the postal boxes.

Ford does build right hand drive cars from some of their other models (that are not sold here) but those are mostly made in and for, England and Australia and a few for Japan.

The S550 Mustang is now also built in right hand versions.
