Danny, I will follow this thread with interest. I need to do the same rechrome of inside door handles. BTW, how did you get the old chrome off? I see the handle has been removed from the door insert...I know how to remove the door and it's mounting, but what did you do to separate the handle from the insert? Steve

Steve, I removed the chrome by soaking in muriatic acid for a couple of days. I have a number of emails out with the pictures looking for a price and the time it would take. Will let you know when they get back to me. As far as removing handle it is held in place by a long rivet, I ground off the one end and pulled the pin.

Thanks, Danny, for the quick comeback. Yes, now I remember the seeing the long rivet and how grinding one end off would allow the handle to be removed. Nice move on the muriatic acid soak. Look forward to your findings on chromers. Steve

Danny a bunch of use are interested. I have 3 center caps that I'll take the bird off and the white ring and get the remaining pieces chromed.

There are two ways this can be done. I used the method of finding a plater that did Vacuum Metalizing when I was restoring old mustangs in the late 70's. Today another process more commonly used is powder coating.,which may be easier to find a shop that does it today.

Seriously Why chrome plate them? Why not use the many different chrome products that are available? It is just plastic tucked into the recess of the door panel

              Just asking

Mike Not sure what chrome products you are referring to. Is there something that looks like chrome but not? A friend of mine owns a powder coating business and said the oven is too hot for plastic. I can't imagine it costing very much to have these done. I'll post what I hear from the chroming company's.

Hopefully the many chrome plated plastic parts will soon become a viable market for reproduction business.

Danny the business that I used to chrome center caps is kapupt. They charged $18 per cap as a frame of reference .

One of the local members of the Spokane, Washington Mustang club had much of the plastic crap under the hood powder coated chrome, about two years ago. I mean no disrespect to your friend, but I have seen the results on plastic and they are top notch.

Contact info Jon. The outfit that I had powdercoat wheels wouldn't touch plastic either. Mailing small parts to Washington shouldn't be a poblen.

Powder-coat is a great option for metal and although it looks very good, it doesn't look like chrome. You would have to know if the plastic you are using can tolerate the high heat used for powder-coat baking.

Brad and Bill , What this person had done was all the plastic under the hood on a 07 or 08 Mustang. I am no longer in the club and actually Not in contact with this person by choice. If you want the name PM me, but don't use me as a reference. I would not do this person a favor, but would help out a TBN member as long as they do not mention my name .
