  • What car have you sold that you regret most?

Often read a thread about someone selling their retro, and wonder how they feel later. I have never sold a retro, but can think of several cars I really regret selling.

1963 Split window tanker. After taking best of show at the Toppers annual car show in 1968, I sold her for $3300 knowing I was Headed for Nam. Back home from the desert SW. 7500 miles and 15 states! Black Beauty missed me or should I say I missed her!

This may seem silly but I miss my 1962 Plymouth Valiant. It was a 2 door powered by a slant 6 with "4 on the floor" shifter. Mods included removing the hub caps.
          2002 Thunderbird Blue.
19" TSW Snetterton Wheels, Continental eXtremeContact tires.
Eibach lowering kit, Borla Catback Exhaust system and CAI,
          Powersports California Custom aluminum grille.

1967, I sold my 65 Stingray roadster, 4/sp, 327/300, two tops, Nassau Blue in and out. I still have a few photos of the car in my den.

Had to make a choice between keeping the car or buying furniture for me and my new bride.

                Furniture won.

Just about every one! TR3B, Alfa 2000, '57 Golden Hawk, Trans Am, Eldo convert, etc.

But, how about the one that got away? In 1964, the shop that cared for my first car, a Volvo P1800, offered me a Mercedes 300 SL coupe. Said it was a lemon, and they were tired of trying to keep it running. Offered to trade it for my Volvo and $4k. But I had just reenlisted to make the down payment on the used P1800, and to this Spec 4, $4k might as well have be $4m.

I regret selling my 2002 Thunderbird, and also my 2003 Thunderbird, but I bought a different 2002 Thunderbird, so the regret isn't so bad.

If regret means unable to predict the future value IE: 60's Corvettes, Mustangs, GTO's and such, then quite a few. If regret just means missing a car that has been sold then several of those too, including my 02 WW. Who knows, I always keep my eyes open.

I was in college and the foreign car garage owner offered to sell me his 300sl that he had imported and used himself -it was perfect, for $5,000, which, like you, was an impossibly high amount. Wonderful car, but I would never have been able to afford to care for it, so just as well. Still one of the neatest cars of all time, though.
