Re: What car have you sold that you regret most?

1924 Essex, 2 dr coach that I bought out of a junk yard when I was 16 in 1961. All original and complete with the exception of the radiator emblem, one tail light and gear shift knob. No body damage and no rust!

Re: What car have you sold that you regret most?

In the mid70s the Navy moved me, family, and our 1965 Mustang to Puerto Rico. After a four year stay, my family and I moved to California...the Mustang stayed on the island. Boy, sure wish I had that car now. Reminds me of a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL convertible I had just after high school. Then a 1972 Ford Gran Torino, 429 that was sold during the gas crunch and in preparation for Puerto Rico duty (when I bought the more economical Mustang). After Cali, I purchased a late 80s Mustang, 4 cylinder, what a dog, big mistake! So many cars with so many memories.

1968 Pontiac GTO, 350 HP/400 engine, turbo-hydramatic. Beautiful, now rare springmist green color. Probably the worst car I have ever owned. Ordered in March '68, took delivery in April (on my birthday no less), traded it in the following March on my first Ford. So many problems. I was on a first name basis with the service adviser at the dealership. Even the driver on the bus I took from the dealership to work started recognizing me because I was using it so often. But in today's collector market it would be the one car I would like to have back the most.

Re: What car have you sold that you regret most?

I asked my 89-year-old Dad this question, and he replied, "I regret the loss of your Mom and my very first car, a 1928 Franklin. But it was your MOM who sold it, not me, so that's another story altogether."

My favorite was my 1962 VW with the ragtop sunroof. It was only 36 hp and 6v. But I love that car and would like to buy one like it. Those were the hippie days, we painted it yellow and covered the door panels with flowered material.

My Dad bought one new. It was white with red interior and no sunroof. 1962 was the first year for a gas gauge. I learned how to shift in that car.

This is why even though the T Birds don't seem to be appreciating in value, I will not let this one go.

Re: What car have you sold that you regret most?

I regret selling nearly everyone of them from the 1976 yellow Citi Car to the black on black 440 powered Jensen Interceptor including the three 60s Thunderbirds, three TVRs and two American powered Jaguars.

The one I enjoyed selling the most is a tie between a 1971 Eldorado Convertible and a 1985 Audi 5000 Avant.

Rusty, I had three bugs and one was a 59 ragtop. Liked that car. But my baby was my 61 Bug. Right out of high school I stripped it down to bare metal, replaced the fenders, new headliner, a big bore muffler from JC Whitney, wood dash, and had it painted maroon with a black vinyl top.

Re: What car have you sold that you regret most?

One of the most enjoyable cars I think we've had was a 1999 Mazda Miata that we bought for my wife. We traded it in on a VW Passat in 2004 for her. I really enjoyed driving that car and some aspects that were unique to the 1998-2000 model years. Too small for me to really use as my daily driver, but I enjoyed driving it on the weekends mostly. Additionally, I had my 2003 Ford Thunderbird and a couple of restored VW Beetles (63 and 69) so I didn't really have room for another weekend toy.

It's been almost five weeks since I traded my original owner 20,000 mile Merlot Retro Bird for a Buick Cascada. I already have accumulated 800 miles (the equivalent of what I drove the bird in the last 3 and 1/2 years). The top and windows all go up and down in less than 20 seconds, even while moving. I now can carry rear seat passengers, average 27 to 30 mpg, and still drive a car that has very similar power and road ability as the bird. No, regrets and this time I have a white vehicle which shows cleaner after a drive. Yes, I loved the bird, but found a modern replacement which I enjoy more.

Not mine, but my best friend had a 57 BelAir convert painted 1960 Caddy Bahama blue. The car had a station wagon bumper, which removes the plate from the trunk and puts it on the bumper.

The stock grille was completely replaced with a 58 Buick grille (small square chrome squares). (Can't remember where the turn signal lamps were relocated). Also, the two chrome pieces on the hood were removed and the twin peaks filled in/rounded. Great mods.

Three sp/column/283 solid lifters BUT...the car only had a 2 barrel carb, so my 57 BelAir beat his 57 BelAir.

                            Car was absolutely gorgeous.

I hear where you're coming from. I've had other convertibles that were easier to live with on a daily basis than the Thunderbird which included a 1982 Chrysler LeBaron, a 1996 Pontiac Firebird convertible, and a 1999 Mazda Miata. As such you drive them more.
