Just noticed power steering fluid on garage floor (had heard the whine from low fluid level). Added some fluid, and drove a little, car sat a week, more fluid on floor, and fluid level down again below minimum. Will take to my garage in a day or two. Any ideas about what most likely is causing the fluid leakage? Thanks

Pretty sure it is a hole.
Sorry had to do it and I know I'm no help, but actually once the car is up on a lift and running it should be easier to locate. -

A fairly common occurrence. Can be anything from hose fitting,O ring, pump seal or wore out pump. I wouldn't call it a major repair cost wise and pump should not be hard to get as they don't change much. New pump installed on my F150 was less than $200.00Comment

Look for a leak at or near the power steering pressure switch. It is located under the air conditioning compressor. A real bugger to get and replace. If needed it is available at a local auto parts store for around $35. Plenty of threads on TBN for step-by-step replacement. I did it in my garage in about an hour. Then again, the leak could be from a hose!Pensacola, FL

Sounds like the same thing that happened to my 2002 last week while on our way to Myrtle Beach, SC. First heard a noise while going through a round about. Stopped to check the fluid and could barely turn the wheel. Fluid was low. I added fluid and did not help the situation much. Drove the last 100 miles without power steering. On Monday I drove the bird to Beach Ford/Lincoln. Problem was a pressure switch. The part had to be ordered and the car was ready on Wed. Cost was $262.00. Now drives like new.SamComment

My mechanic says it is the pressure switch. Part is ordered. Will let you know the final outcome. Many thanks!

Pressure switch installed. Works great. $85 part, $222 total bill. FYI first replacement part was from AutoZone and defective. FOMCO part works.Comment
