    Re: Parking lot problems

Some people are just rotten drivers and rotten parkers. Dents and dings aren't always intentional or malicious.

For example, what do you do when you return to your parked car and find that someone has parked so close to you that you can't get your driver's side door open? And suppose that the passenger door is similarly blocked?

The last time this happened to me I waited for the other driver to return to their car and automatically assumed that they just didn't bother to 'park within the lines.' When I asked why they had parked that way, and left no room for me to enter my car, they said that they had to part that way because ANOTHER car had not parked 'within the lines.'

People tend to be pretty impatient these days, and everyone has something on their mind that's a higher priority than 'parking lot etiquette.' If you're in a hurry or perhaps have an emergency, you're probably not thinking about how your lousy parking job creates problems for others.

Just the way of the world, and in the overall scheme of things, a pretty minor problem.

There probably are some cars that can have all cameras on, including a motion sensor, while parked. Then you would need a lawyer.
Or try to collect damages yourself.

          Re: Parking lot problems

I bought my '04 new. When it was two weeks old I was having lunch with our parish priest and had parked the car just outside the cafe near the window our table was located. A woman back out her space and directly into my rear bumper. The priest loudly took the Lord's name in vain. To her credit the lady drove directly to the repair shop I knew and gave them all the information for the repair. Since that time the driver side door has been keyed, the passenger side smashed to the tune of over $8000. The rear bumper was smashed in a parking lot by a hit and runner. Last year I had the hood repainted due to road rash. I just saw a Bird advertised in our local paper with 97k miles for $8000. I would guess that the last big accident would not be covered by insurance now so being careful is now the name of the game. One note. All the repainting has been perfectly matched every time.

Yes, it certainly is a MAJOR improvement over the paint matching ability of 50 years ago. Is it the process change where there is the base coat then clear coat?

Yep and the old paint was taken off down to the metal. I have noticed, just today, that the plastic rear bumper which was removed and replaced twice, looks slightly out of sinc with the rest of the metal fender. I'll take it back to the repair shop and see if it is fixable.
