    Re: T Bird Weight

4400 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) which includes fluids, passengers and luggage. So don't hold your fluids too long or you may go over the rating.

My mint green '73 Bird was a REAL tank. Probably a draw with Tony's Eldo

        Re: T Bird Weight

October issue of Motor Trend Magazine has a 2005/6 new car report.
Page 112 shows the 2005 T Bird with curb weight as 3800 lbs. The same article, page 117, says that the Lincoln LS is 3681 lbs. curb weight. I would think that should be heavier. Hmmmm.
It also says that the TBird changes are; "50th anniversary badge, restyled aluminum cabin trim and appearance package". It goes on to say "Production may end soon."

George the added weight on our Birds over the LS is the difference between a sedan and convertible, correct?

Just like the owners, that weight is not from fat, but from muscle....(We can dream, can't we?????)

Maybe that was the LS 6 rating, and not the LS 8? Still sounds too low. (Edmunds has the LS weight at 25 lbs less than the Bird, but they don't note if that's with or without the hard top.)

                  Old Thread alert!! GVW question(Newbie)

I noticed that the maximum weight allowed for passengers and cargo is 453 lbs. Umm, Me and the Missus are over that limit. I am looking to buy a T-Bird and was wondering if I should be concerned with this. If we get in it together, is there an alarm that goes off or a voice crying in pain? LOL

                  Thanks in advance

                    Re: T Bird Weight

There are many of us who have frequently exceeded the 453 number and I know of no one who has busted a suspension yet.

Awwww! Why'd you have to tell me that? Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. Handles just fine even over the limit.

For what it's worth. First MSB '05 purchased new in NY was registered at 3637 lbs. on the reg.
The replacement(original was wrecked) purchased from the original Michigan owner weighed in at 3780 when registered in NY.
In all fairness it was used very little and may have put a few pounds on sitting in that garage!

Were these weights via an actual scale? Based on nothing more then gut feel, I would think the Thunderbird would be closer to 3600 - 3700 range than 4400 unless the 4400 assumes max load and a full tank.

                            Re: T Bird Weight

4400 is the Maximum load which includes passengers and luggage, trunk mat, full tank, hardtop, etc..., not the actual weight of the car with no occupants, or luggage, gas, et.... That seems to give us about 600 to 700 spare #s to meet but my tag also says, lower in the fine print on that same tag, that the maximum load for passengers and cargo alone is 454#. umm - in that case, we can not travel to anymore faraway events. Seriously though, if anyone does have a suspension related accident from something breaking and weight was the contributing factor, Ford covers themselves with this low estimate of Max load.
