There were 1,407 2002's black with full red interiors. Of those there were 31 with "100xxx" for the last six in the VIN. None of these 31 had a 3 and a 1 (or 1 and 3) in any combination, in any position, for the last three digits.

The closest I think you might have seen was 110013 and that was a usa unit built on January 24 that went to Sutton Ford in Matteson, IL - (about 10 miles from me).

There were 219 black with full red interiors for 2002 sold in Canada. The four units of these 219 with 100xxx were 100259, 100375, 100379 and 100538.

This should have been the correct number Harry, sorry for the inconvenience. Will make sure next time I spot one.

Harry Thanks for the quick response and the info. I am truly surprised that the story I received from the used car dealer in Ottawa Ont. Ca. is correct. He at the time of sale, told me the car was from Nova Scotia, then the owner moved to Montreal, Quebec and sold the car at auction before moving back to Nova Scotia. I bought the car from a used car dealer in Ottawa. This would make me the second registered owner.
Thanx for the complement on my Fordor, I bought this car in Bathurst New Brunswick, 15 years ago and had many enjoyable miles in her including 7 Hot Rod Powers Tours.

Good evening Harry. I would appreciate knowing more about my 05 Medium Steel Blue, last 5 numbers are 03108.
Can you determine who the receiving dealer was? I was told by the dealer that sold me the Bird that they were not, that they had made a dealer trade to have the medium steel blue at their location.
Also I have jotted down a note from back in 05 that this car's build number, whatever that is, is somewhere between 3091 to 3138. I have no idea where I got that information or just what heck it means. I say this because I think you mentioned early on in this thread that build number & vin number are not the same thing. That there isn't a numerical sequence to cars going through manufacture & their vin number. Very confusing. ????????
And when folks speak of build number, does that reflect the number of units per year? I ask because I bought the 05 in November of 04 so I'm trying to put together some sense to how the numbering system works. More out of curiosity than need to know.

The data I need to narrow down how many were built before yours on 10/28 is incomplete so all I can say is yours is somewhere between the 3,092 and 3,137th 2005 built. The VIN is assigned as orders come in and due to a variety of reasons they can not be built in that exact order.

Harry, thank you very much for my Bird's build numbers. And especially the additional information.

The additional comments you add to some of the car's history is also a very interesting insight to the building, selling & re-selling, transportation and finally the destination of the Retros. Almost every car has its own story.
