I got PM from Neal_J from Post 611 & 612 telling me he had a VMG hardtop, not the white one I show it left with factory with. Since it may be of general interest, here was my reply to him:

Do you have the original window sticker? If you do it will say the car left the factory with a WHITE hardtop. Manteca Ford-Mercury received TWO VMGs on 10/15/2003. One had a white hardtop and one had a VMG hardtop. The one that left the factory with a VMG hardtop was sold 11/8/2003 so that's where your original white top went. Either thru an accidental dealer mix-up or the other customer wanted your white hardtop on the other Thunderbird. Maybe he bought the car, drove it a while and then asked the dealer to swap hardtops. The VIN for the VMG Thunderbird that apparently was the donor for your hardtop is 1FAHP60A44Y104028 and that was built on 9/30/2003. Maybe the dealers records go back that far and you can verify what I'm telling you with him.

Does anyone know if Ford's Oasis system would show what color hardtop a car came with? If it does show, Neal_J (post# 618) could verify the hardtop he has is not original.

Have one for the 007 and it lists the top as white. that any help Harry ?

And this one previous listed shows a MSG top although on a MSG body.

Thanks Martin but he doesn't have the window sticker. Next time he goes to the dealer for something he could check to see if they list top color.

Have a copy of the dealers original file sheet and under optional equipment it also states "performance white removable top ". this what you may be looking for ?

"The dealers file sheet" - by that do you mean the invoice sheet the dealer has for each of his vehicles? Neal doesnt have that for his car. The Oasis system that service people use shows the vehicles maintence history, recalls, original equipment, etc .... that is something Neal could check at any Ford dealer - I just don't know if it would show color of the hardtop, I would think it should. And I don't know if Canadian dealers use Oasis.

Guess you could call it an invoice sheet. About the same info that would be printed on the window sheet. Not sure how long they wold keep these on file.
Can check with our local dealer next time I go in for service on the 2012 MKZ and see what system they use for service records .

The vin is 2Y111970 and I purchased it new from Rich Ford in Albuquerque, NM when someone changed their mind after ordering it.
