  • Randal, Here is the build dates of all the NMs, keep in mind that for cars built the same day, any one of them may have gone down the line ahead or behind another built on the same day. I use Microsoft Access for these tables and that makes it pretty easy to extract data.

    • Wow that is some great information there. And to your point earlier proves the vin’s are in no sequence at all. That is exactly the info I was looking for. Thank you again for all your time and info. You are a valuable resource to this group.

The VINs are more closely corelated to build date than the NM table would indicate. This was startup for a BRAND NEW automobile and brand new year. While the NMs show a VIN spread of only 200 digits over three months, the regular production Tbird VINs were into the mid- 002500s by September of 2001.

        • I just didn’t imagine that it took three months to build all the NM. Somehow I figured they ran so many done the line to start then did all the NM back to back. So if you don’t mind me asking, how did you learn all this info? And have you looked or do you know if the other year limited editions were done the same way. For example the James Bond 007 and the pacific coast roadster and the cashmere editions?

          • Yes, all were done in a similar fashion... they didnt run all the same model or color down the line one after another. While i worked at Ford i gathered data to support the online Thunderbird community and continue to do so years after retiring.
Further info, the 03-05 Special Editions had a numbered plaque in the glove box - like for the Bond Birds a plaque would read # 349 of 700 We've learned these number plaques were also assigned "not exactly" in build or VIN sequence but generally did follow in order.

            • So the NMs don’t have a glovebox plaque?

                • You read my mind QuickDraw. I was wondering if the glove box plaques followed any order or not. And it’s too bad the NM didn’t have the plaques. Thank you again for all the info. It has been invaluable to me. And saved me from buying another NM bird (for now at least).

On a side note. There’s a pretty sweet NM T-bird in Oregon for sale. $25k with a little over 10,000 miles. If anyone on here is interested I’d be glad to pass along his name and number.

                  • The vin#s for the NM are their plaque and the body code of 64 in the vin is unique to the NM. The other special/limited editions also have their own unique body codes along with their plaques. 007 = 62, PCR=63, and Cashmere=69
Limited Edition databases for 007 msg..#26 , PCR sticky, and Cashmere msg.#64

Missed this info Harry. Very interesting to me as to how many were built without hardtops. Do you know of the 68000+ how many came without hardtops?

I had this broken down before on the Random Useless Facts thread but those tables got trashed in the last TBN "upgrade"

There were 6,979 of the 68,098 2002-2005 Tbirds built without hardtops. By far 2005 was the year with the fewest hardtops due to problems with the supplier of the hardtops, this was also the final straw that caused cancelation of the 2006 Thunderbird. Ford offered a super low lease price to their executives on 2005 models WITHOUT hardtops.

2002 = 31,068 built, 2,004 did not have hardtops (6.45% had no hardtop)
2003 = 14,678 built, 1,574 did not have hardtops (10,72% had no hardtop)
2004 = 12,757 built, 1,094 did not have hardtops (8.57% had no hardtop)
2005 = 9,295 built, 2,006 did not have hardtops (21.58% had no hardtop)
