                      • Hey QuickDraw. I have a 2002 Neiman Marcus Tbird with vin ending in 100095. I also am in discussions to buy another 2002 Neiman Marcus with a vin ending in 100027. Can you give me the info on those two please. And can you tell me if the 100027 would have been the 2nd NM off the line? I’m hoping I can substantiate that as to help convince me to buy a 2nd one. Lol. I guess what I’m hoping for is would the low vin number on the NM make it more special. Any light that you can shine on that would be greatly appreciated.

The build date and VIN are only loosely correlated with the build sequence. The public generally thinks they are exactly correlated and pay big bucks for say #000001 for certain cars thinking that was the first one built when in fact it rarely if ever is the first one built, at least for Ford. Very low VIN# usually go to well connected executives or dealerships and for Ford, there would be several other VINs produced before VIN #00001. Your # 00095 was built on 6/18/2001. On that day there were 11 NM's built. Not including two early prototype NM's that were later destroyed, there were 38 NM's built before 6/18/2001. That means yours was somewhere from the 39th to 51st NM to be built.

VIN #00027 was built on 6/14/2001, when 17 were built. Not counting those two early destroyed NMs there were 18 NMs built before 6/14 so #00027 could have been as early as #19 or as high as the # 35th NM built. To answer your question about "specialness" - yes, some people DO feel the low VINs are special and are willing to pay up for them.

                          • Thank you so much for the info QuickDraw. So a couple of more questions if I may. Do we know what vin was the starting vin when they started building the Thunderbirds? And I read somewhere that they first ones down the line was testing the line and some (like you mentioned on the NM) may have been destroyed. And that one of each color was for the ford museum, and that top execs got other early built ones. So do we know how many Thunderbirds were built before they started producing the NM birds.

                            • The first day of recorded production was 3/14/2001 when they built 23 units. Two of those 23 were NMs. Here are the first 23 built but I lack the data to sort them in order of build so anyone of these could have been the first built. Keep in mind # 245 and 246 were destroyed by the company.

                              • Man you are a wealth of information. And now I understand what you are saying about the vin’s. If these were the first 23, they have higher vin’s than the NM I have and the one I’m looking to buy. And like you said we still don’t know what order those were produced in, just that they were built that day. That’s very frustrating for a numbers guy like me. Lol. Thank you again for all the information and patiently answering all my questions. If there is ever anything I can do to help with anything please let me know. All of this is very interesting to me. I am a Microsoft certified excel expert so I love the numbers part and compiling extensive lists to try to narrow down build numbers and be able to qualify how many were built like that. You are a true asset to this club and it is much appreciated.
