You guys have been busy. Harry sent me build dates. It just confirms that serial #s got scattered after the first batch though there are a few serial #s that are in sequence later on. My head has had enough for tonight.

Trying to recall what we were told about parts bins at Wixom during our tour in 2005 and how parts are put on the cars. In the case of the glove box serial #s (this applies to 2004 and 2005, too), the plaques were placed on the glove boxes before the lids were put in the parts bin and later installed in the cars.

The glove box lids were in a particular bin, probably by color, so that when a car was designated to get a glove box lid, the correct color part was located, pulled from its bin, and placed on the car.

Who knows how they were removed from the parts bin and in what order. Were there rows of the parts? Were they stacked? There may have been some order at first when the stack was new, but later on, when other cars also went thru the assembly line, a worker may have just pulled the closest one available from the bin when that color was needed, not knowing there was any order in the stacks. Serial #s thus became mixed and random.

So, this is why we are tracking the serial #s with the vin#s.

yes, on 007 #700 - it's vin was discussed in another thread because it's for sale right now (which brought up this whole discussion again) vin 106164

as for 007 #1, it's conjecture at this point but is most likely vin 101931

BUT if you're asking which was the first one completed and which one was the last one completed, that is all conjecture right now unless Quickdraw has a file on the time stamps. I do know he has the build dates. 3 were built in October 2002 so 1 of those is first. Quickdraw points out that 44 were built in the last two days of production of the 007s, including #700.

Guess it's the same reason we track the auction price of certain diecasts - because we are curious and have some ability to do it. While it would seem completely irrational to the vast majority of the population, it evidently is rational to a lot of us here.

When you think about it the only possible numbers than could potentially have any real monetary value are #001, #007, #700. For all of the rest, what number they are is pretty much not that important - they are just XXX of 700.

What does I.P. mean?

If it's the white parts label with the vin# ID, those were applied at the plant where the car was being assembled. I did find the last of the labels on a sheet when we picked up our Inca Gold. and they were mentioned at the Wixom tour.

I copied all of the Thunderbird Registry's 007 Edition VINs and Edition Numbers into a spreadsheet. I'd be happy to send it to any interested parties (they identify many more of the xxx of 700 numbers). One interesting thing I noticed - the first 007 Edition was #77 (not #1) and was built in October of 2002. Regualr production did not start until early 2003. Wouldn't this make #77 the most desirable one to own? Here are the comments form the Registry -

"This 2003 Thunderbird 007 Edition was built on 10/14/2002 and sold by Ford Company Lease Plan, Detroit, MI on 11/7/2002. It has 15,600 miles on it and is #77 of the 700 made. As of August, 2005 it was for sale on ebay and located in Walbridge, Ohio. - See more at: http://www.tbirdregistry.com/viewdatasheet.aspx?RegistryNumber=27800"
