I'll have to go dig out some information after the weather warms up to see some of the details of the sale. I just don't remember for sure. I know it was in March because I was wanting to get it for my wife for our Wedding Anniversary.
I do remember that I heard about the car becoming available and I made it to the dealer right away. I knew the person that ordered it had made a
substantial non-refundable deposit to get it on order.
I made an offer with cash in hand and part of the terms of the sale was that I wanted a hard top. The Sales Manager came out with the sales person that I was dealing with and stated that they couldn't provide a top. His explanation was the car was so new yet in the Ford parts system that they couldn't find a part # for it. He said that he was afraid to sell me the car that way because he didn't know what the top was going to cost him. They accepted the offer less the top so we made a deal. I always wondered if that was a true story on the part of the Sales Manager.
I appreciate the link to the window sticker but I am one of the lucky ones that still has he origional along with everything else, even the plastic bag for the boot. The drive out tag is there too.

In this case I don't think the sales manager was fibbing to you. The hardtops were in very short supply the first (and last) year of production. All the tops the vendor could make went to support production at the Wixom plant.

"The dealers file sheet" - by that do you mean the invoice sheet the dealer has for each of his vehicles? Neal doesnt have that for his car. The Oasis system that service people use shows the vehicles maintence history, recalls, original equipment, etc .... that is something Neal could check at any Ford dealer - I just don't know if it would show color of the hardtop, I would think it should. And I don't know if Canadian dealers use Oasis.

Harry: Taking our MKZ in for service today and while making the appointment I enquired about the "Oasis system ' and , yes they use it here in Canada as well .

Thank you, when you actually take it in for service ask if the optional hardtop and color is listed in Oasis. If so Neal_J from (Post 611 & 612) could verify his in fact did leave the factory with a white hardtop and the dealer later switched it.

Maybe Harry, I might like to upgrade if I can find a later model at a good price. However this may be a stupid move since my 03 turns out to be a real good Bird. All the usual problems with Birds, COP's, soft shifting 2nd to 3rd gear, A/C compressor, etc. were already addressed just before I purchased her. At 59,000 miles it should have real good future for awhile. Thanks again for the info and have a great day.

The "one of" number I will give you is how many cars were made like yours. Things like rarer colors, unusual body and hardtop color combos, lack of hardtop, lack of color accented interior, lack of SST (for the 2003-2005s), and deluxe instead of premium model are factors that would significantly reduce the number of cars made like the more typically built units.<o:p></o:p>
